Curly hair and fringe anyone?

I’m trying to embrace my 2c/3a curly hair. I am permanently dissatisfied with how I look at the moment though. I have a long face shape and I’m contemplating getting a fringe to hide my high forehead.

Are there any other curly haired people with a fringe who can let me know how they style it? (and encourage and / or put me off!)

Does anyone here wear a fringe naturally curly or should I accept that they need blow drying?

I always have had a curly fringe with my curls and love it as it hides wrinkles! If your hair is similar to the girl in the pic then you see what I mean. Do it!

Following with interest... My forehead seems to be getting bigger and would like to hide it but seems tricky with curls.

I could never pull it off with my type of curl. A colleague does, though -- she has spirally curls, probably between 3 b and 3 c, kind of, so her fringe is very much a series of spirals that break up her forehead and look great.

I think if you google “curly fringe” you’ll see lots of examples from wavy to super curly so you don’t necessarily need super curly hair for a fringe to look good.
I attach another example of someone with 2B/3A type curls.

In terms of styling you do exactly the same as you do with the rest of your hair: styling product + diffuse

I think the key is finding a good Curly Hairdresser to cut it. There are plenty around these days. Not cheap but worth it specially for a restyle as curls shrink a lot so no good cutting it wet.
I never understood why anyone with curly hair would want a straight fringe for example: to me looks strange and a bit contrived as it doesn’t match the rest of your natural hair texture but if you have only slightly wavy hair then a straight fringe could work.

Curly hair and huge forehead here. Never got the hang of a curly fringe as curl isn't strong right to the roots so it never looked right. So I've spent my whole life pissing about blow drying it and hoping it doesn't rain 🙄

My hair is a mixture of 2a, b and c and I have a substantial fringe. My hair is so thick that there's just too much hair otherwise and I was always having to pin back the front sections anyway. I don't straighten it unless I'm straightening everything. It's way easier than I thought it would be. I use styling products when drying it wavy and these help me twist into shape any bits of the fringe that are misbehaving.

Yep curly/wavy hair here and I blow dry my fringe, it doesn't sit right otherwise as its not curly...just frizzy! But as my curls are half curly half wave, it looks okay I think 😁

Curly hair and fringe, I always blow dry my fringe and usually the rest of my hair as never too fond of my frizzy curls! But my fringe is too short to be left to dry, would recommend blow drying

I have a ringlets/curls/waves mix and have had a fringe for years - if you blow dry it whilst brushing from side to side, it makes your fringe sit softly without hanging down and oppsoing the curls too much. I look a bit like Kate Bush (the only way I will ever look like her hahaha), which I think is a lovely soft style. My forehead is a fivehead and I need the fringe!

LovelyCat · 13/04/2023 11:19

If your hair is long and so the weight is pulling the curls down so it looks straight-ish from root to say eyebrows or even ear level then it looks more harmonious to blow dry your fringe straight.
If your hair is curly right from the root then curly fringe.

Thanks for the responses.

WhineWhineWhineWINE - that I what I can foresee happening 😂

I’m going shorter with this cut too, so might stick with that this time then add fringe next time if I feel brave and I’m still unsatisfied. I wish hair wasn’t so important to feeling good, but it really is for me 😬

I so want the answer to this. Forehead increasingly wrinkly.... Also a bit bored of the long, layered bob....

I keep toying with the idea but then curly hair takes an age to grow...so the old "i you don't like it you can just grow it out" thinks doesn't reassure me.

I am also grey...so really, really scared of it making my whole head look rounder and resembling Mrs Goggins from Postman Pat......
