Jeans with raw hem unravelling - complain or suck it up?

I bought some Whistles jeans with a raw hem. I wasn't that fussed about it as a design feature but really liked the fit and got them to wear rolled up so the fact the hem looks unfinished wasn't an issue as you can't see it anyway.

However - I've had on a couple of times and the hem is constantly unravelling so what was a couple cm of threads is now 1.5 inches. Should I complain or accept I'm an idiot and it's a given this would happen? Just can't really believe that jeans which are £99 RRP are actually shrinking with each wear. They'll be shorts by the time it's summer!

I think they are supposed to do that.

you can get something called fray stop to put on them. Or just use clear nail varnish.

Clothing shouldn't fray away to nothing, regardless of design. I stitched round the bottom of my frayed jeans to stop this and they've been fine. But honestly, this sort of disposable design makes my blood boil. It sounds like yours have gone quite far. I'd be tempted to complain they're not fit for purpose.

Have you got a sewing machine? Run a line of stitches across the bottom?

ReadersD1gest · 12/04/2023 13:20

I'd complain.

CrotchetyQuaver · 12/04/2023 13:24

It's inevitable if there's not a line of stitching above the frayed part to stop it in the first place!

Thanks for replying all. I might try for a refund and if that doesn't work then get them hemmed. Do feel like a bit of a wally, think I just assumed they'd stay like they arrived! Agree re fast fashion too particularly as I only justified spending that much to myself because I thought I'd get a lot of wear out of them.
