Wedding outfit-horrible legs!

Stationclare · 11/04/2023 12:11

OK hope some of you can help! Got a wedding second week in May. All day event and reception/evening for a family member.
Hoping weather will be ok!

So I want to get a dress, but will have to be maxi,as I've got horrible varicose veins low down on one leg. Lumpy veins on same foot also which are even worse. This means even strappy shoes are an issue.

I've ordered a few days dresses, but even maxi often aren't that long and horrid leg visible. Then full length is so long it's a trip hazard!!
I've found some great dresses but I feel uncomfortable because of my legs(leg).
Shoes I will prob look at mules with a bit of coverage!

I know many people will say who cares?! Show your legs but that's a no go!
I'm slim 5ft 4 size 8 to 10. Can wear anything figure wise just full coverage!!!

Do you definitely want a dress? What about a fancy jumper suit?

Stationclare · 11/04/2023 12:24

Did think jumpsuit at one point but fancy a floaty dress I think!

Get a full length dress and have it taken up to the right length for you

Stationclare · 11/04/2023 12:36

Maybe but seems a lot of hassle when I can get something off the peg!

For heavens sake! There will be a compromise here- which one will you accept?:

  1. Floaty dress taken up to right length
  2. Floaty dress wrong length which shows off leg or is too long
  3. jumpsuit/ trousers
Mitchumforthewin · 11/04/2023 12:41

Wide leg trousers. They look great on the slim but not great legs people (like me!)

Stationclare · 11/04/2023 12:45

I like wide trousers and I love jumpsuits but I wear both quite a lot. I suppose a just fancied a dress as its wedding

OK! I suppose you're right! Perhaps I'm just having a moan as I can't wear what I want!!!😫

I’d have said ‘fancy trouser suit’ … Or a dress at a more manageable length, with knee high boots in something like pink or turquoise suede or fabric. Only because a long dress is such a nuisance unless it’s what you know you look best in.

It’s not much hassle to get a dress maker ! I do it all the time

MetaDaughter · 11/04/2023 12:51

Sorry, the green boots are Zara! Tap others for details - from SSense and Massimo Dutti.

Niftythrifter · 11/04/2023 12:51

Would fake tan help make you feel more comfortable with your legs showing? I’d suggest trying espadrille wedges with a closed toe which will look summery but also give you some foot coverage.

Iwantthepenthouse · 11/04/2023 12:54

How about a spray tan? Or even some camouflage make up if it's really bothering you that much?

I definitely don't recommend shiny green boots as the solution. 😄

ShippingNews · 11/04/2023 12:54

I wore a jumpsuit to a wedding recently - a simple one but with a big statement necklace which made it look great. The outfit went from day to night seamlessly, I loved it.

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 11/04/2023 12:55

Tan tights and closed toe shoes with a midi or maxi dress.

There's limited leg visible but the tights smooth and camouflage.

Get the dress and then decide how robust the tights need to be to give you coverage you are happy with.

MetaDaughter · 11/04/2023 13:11

But there’s nothing more depressing, style-wise, than ‘tan coloured’ tights!

(Particularly if one doesn’t possess tan coloured legs …)

I am quite tanned in the nice weather and I did think about tan fishnets but it all feels a bit wintery.
I normally quite happily wear midi dresses on holiday or for a meal for instance and don't care about a glimpse of old lady legs. But the wedding will mean drinking and dancing and photos. I don't want to feel self conscious or look a mess.
I perhaps need to stop thinking of what I'd like to wear compared to what I néed to wear!

OP take a look on ME+EM website as they do long midi dresses and the back dips down longer than the front. I have a vein on the back of 1 calf and I'm 5ft 9" and find these dresses brilliant. They're expensive but there's a sale section and you're perhaps a smaller than average size so might find something suitable left in the sale. It's worth a try.

I cannot wear tan coloured tights, it's almost at phobia levels for me!

Lcb123 · 11/04/2023 13:26

Id go for a jumpsuit and heels, I just got a lovely one from Warehouse for a wedding

Stationclare · 11/04/2023 13:27

Perhaps jumpsuit is better so no flying skirts on the dance floor. And a rethink on shoes. More closed in than strappy.
I will have a spray tan which covers discolouration somewhat, but not lumpy veins 🙁

My veins at the front/side. So need front dipping one!!!!

oh well in that case unless you're wearing a floor length dress I don't know what to suggest
In your case I'd be looking at a jumpsuit or trousers for sure

Riapia · 11/04/2023 13:31

Go see the bride, show her your lumpy legs and ask her, “do you really want these fuckers on show at your wedding “.
She will obviously recoil in horror and beg you to stay away.
You avoid the wedding, she is saved any embarrassment everyone’s a winner.
😉😁😁
