What to wear? there is a smart dress code with lots of standing around on grass...
For context, I tend to shop in places like Roman, Apricot, Wallis, Joe Browns type clothes for smartish outfits - which I do not wear often! Mostly live in jeans or casual clothes....

I think I am looking for "wedding" type outfit but not entirely sure where to start!

Yes it is very smart. Posh wedding style.
Sometimes celebrities or 'influences' upload pictures to social media and tag their suppliers.
Royal Ascot style aswell.
If you are planning on wearing heals have a backup flat shoes in case of changing to decide on the day depending on the weather

When my mum went, she wore a dress & jacket. She was a "dress for comfort and value" attitude but she splashed out for this! And wedges i.e. not going to sink into the grass.

Hobbs would be where I would start, or Phase Eight, or Jigsaw. More expensive than the places you mention, but relatively easy to wear. Brightly coloured trouser suits with straight rather than skinny legs seem to be the in thing at the moment, they would work as well.

You don't have to wear anything on your head but... there is an expectation, and most women do so you may feel self conscious if you don't. And you might want to layer for the great British weather (again, something with a jacket might be a good idea).

I went once, some years ago. I wore a floral print dress from Coast. The dress code is much like what you would wear for a wedding.
