If you have horrid feet, that you want to hide, what do you wear in summer?

I usually wear sandals that go across the whole width of my foot, bunions included, like this kind of thing

However, now my big toes are getting more and more slanted and they kind of sit in the wrong place, ie more towards the middle of the sandal. I'm keeping an eye out for some kind of caged sandal type thing. I'd kind of made my peace with my ugly feet but they are getting worse with age and I feel a bit self conscious of them.

Some good ideas! I would love to wear my open toe sandals but my feet are truly awful!

I Loath my feet and I hate the summer as sandals look awful on me
I'd love normal toes or delicate normal feet

PineappleyCake · 03/04/2023 21:21

Sorry OP! If it's any consolation mine are getting that way too so I will watch this thread for helpful suggestions...

thenewaveragebear1983 · 03/04/2023 21:23

I do wear sandals but I have to very careful what I buy.
this year after reading on a thread, I have bought some Keen sandals. They are comfy, they are light, they aren’t too ‘comfortable looking’ hideous

i also really like toms for beach holiday, wearing with shorts etc. They are so lightweight, but they aren’t hard wearing and they have zero arch support so for me they are just for occasional wear not every day.

And Also start now with gently exfoliating and moisturising, putting thick cream on after a bath with socks etc, and looking after your nails - our feet look so much worse when we neglect them and looking after them a bit now really does make a difference to how nice they look in the summer.

I have a selection of trainers and plimsolls. Moshulu do them in lots of colours. They also do these https://www.moshulu.co.uk/product/hayle-4000#?variant=312 which I'm going to try on when I'm next in town. Not too much toe on show.

I have similar problems and wore Moshulu sandals in their Wasabi style for years. Every year I bought two pairs and wore them to death as I could walk and walk in them. And then I relegated them to beach sandals at the end of the summer so wore them the following year too. They’ve only gone and bloody discontinued them this year. I am on the lookout for something similar, but I limit my options to Hotter, Moshulu, M&S wide fit and (sometimes) ecco as I know from experience that anything I buy elsewhere will just hurt.

Windingdown · 03/04/2023 21:48

They look lovely but are they wide fitting as my bunion won't squeeze into normal human's shoes.

Maple2023 · 03/04/2023 21:49

@Windingdown there's some sizing stuff here, they're really helpful if you contact them. The leather does give as well

Meandfour · 03/04/2023 21:51

What about some espadrilles ?

Windingdown · 03/04/2023 21:53

Thanks Maple2023. Really appreciate that.

Soproudoflionesses · 03/04/2023 21:59

I like Next forever comfort sandals. My feet used to be so pretty just wide and fugly now.

AbsolutePixels · 03/04/2023 22:03

I wear the same sort of thing that @PineappleyCake linked to. I avoid anything flip-floppy and anything that's going to allow my bunions to bulge out for all to see.

Just get your feet all nice and exfoliated/moisturised and they'll be fine. No one is looking too closely at our wonky toes.

Trainers

michaelmacrae · 03/04/2023 22:25

I have one small bunion on my left foot and Birkenstock Arizonas cover it quite nicely and look trendy too. They also help my toes 'relax' and spread out so they look better and less squished (urgh!)

Loadofoldshart · 03/04/2023 22:29

pikolinos!

NightOwlNotEarlyBird · 03/04/2023 23:12

Closed toe sandals, espadrilles, cloggs...
In the long run OP look into foot exercises and barefoot/minimal shoes. I have bunions and 'bent' toes thanks to previous work shoes but this has helped return the 'shape' of my feet and strengthen them!

Where can we find the foot exercises please?

Lapsedcataholic · 05/04/2023 18:03

I've had the wonky toes for a few years now, they got so bad that last year I bought some Asics and some Brooks trainers and have lived in them ever since. In the height of summer I had a couple of pairs of Toms which being canvas were OK, I sized up by half a size to give me the width needed.

The best sandals I had though were a pair of leather fisherman's sandals I bought in M&S years ago. I've been looking for a replacement for them this year but haven't really seen anything until today, when I spotted the (similar but not the same) ones below online. Don't know what they're like irl. With fisherman's sandals you have the airiness of sandals while having your toes mostly covered.

I'm 6 weeks post-bunion surgery, had my big toe and the one next to it broken and re-set and now I have one lovely straight foot again. Will be getting the other one done next year. I was extremely self-conscious earlier this year when on holidays.

I can’t wear Birkenstock Arizonas because the moulded footbed digs in in the wrong place. Fatface’s meldon sandals look very similar and work for me, and saltwater sandals are good width wise although they’re very flat to walk in for any length of time.

Montgomerymmoose · 05/04/2023 20:03

These cover a fair bit of ugly and are very comfortable.
