Travelling / walking trousers but stylish please

I am 50, 5 ft 7 and a size 12/14. I’ve loads of proper expensive walking trousers but none are stylish enough to wear anywhere but the hills. Harems are too heavy and most joggers go out of shape. Had high hopes for M&S walking trousers but they are too flimsy. I actually look ok in leggings but shouldn’t be wearing them at 50!

I basically want to be able to walk 10km to the pub but look okay when I’m there. And if I could wear them whilst flying and travelling even better.

Any ideas? Probably need specific examples rather than just a brand

I have few pairs of Montane - very flattering. Most recent are Tucana I think - lovely trousers. Have a look at their website - they are expensive but you may find cheaper elsewhere. I would say true to size.

Açai worth a try? Seem to be the lululemon of walking trousers

TNF/ montane/ Mountain Equipment/ mountain hardware all do fairly nice walking trousers in similar style to the açai ones.

I think women's outdoor clothing has come in lots in the past 5 years.

The sizing is crap if you are over a 14 though!

However Personally I wear Nike running trousers in a tech fabric that are beautiful.

Frosty1000 · 03/04/2023 10:55

Try magic trousers, stretchy so comfy for walking but smartish as well.

paintingmakesamess · 03/04/2023 12:37

Wear the leggings! No statute of limitations on age!

Hongkongsuey · 03/04/2023 12:49

I wear Montane Ineo pro-recently wore them to trek all around Rome and didn’t feel the slightest bit frumpy. They’re comfortable, articulated knees so good for scrambling and very flattering.

I wear a cropped version of these for walking — tough, slightly stretchy fabric, dries quickly, useful pockets, the crop length looks good with boots of any kind.

You're joking aren't you? They're hideous, and if they make a slim model look 6 months pregnant, what hope is there for anyone else?

If you're comfortable in leggings and can get some that are warm/sturdy enough, wear those. There's no age limit on clothes.

Or Acai as suggested upthread.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 03/04/2023 14:01

I came on to soggiest Acai too.

Absolutely. Leggings for sure. I wear Sweaty Betty for hiking, and they’re brilliant.

You lot are fab! I had previously discounted Açai because I didn’t like their styles but they’ve some new ones in that look perfect. I’d also forgotten my Garys so might get another pair of those. Thanks for all the suggestions

I have these from next, which I wonder if might fit the bill. They wash and wear beautifully. I have several pairs, most I've actually bought second hand already.

Dear me, who pissed on your sartorial chips? I frequently see insanely hideous garments recommended on here and have managed to refrain from arriving on the thread to point this out. I think leggings have no place outside the gym or actually running, but other people don’t agree.

Rollinghill · 03/04/2023 22:06

I was coming to recommend Rohan too

Love these in the roasted brown, would look great with a black tank top, sadly sold out in my size, I'll have to hope they re-stock.

rohan

ErrolTheDragon · 03/04/2023 23:02

I reckon my craghoppers kiwis look fine in the pub or travelling so long as I've got a decent top on.

timtam23 · 03/04/2023 23:50

I have some Rab women's Capstone trousers, got them in the sale but they're so comfortable and I wear them so much that I'm thinking of getting another pair in a different colour
