Footwear for spring-Does everyone just wear trainers now?

Don’t get me wrong, I like trainers, but I wanted something just a bit smarter, flat, nice to wear with trousers/jumpsuits etc for eating out with family etc (so not formal but slightly more dressed up than the supermarket) and I’m really struggling to find anything I like. Seems to be either trainers of my old school shoes from 1995.

I live in a rural area that fashion forgot so it’s mainly goretex in these parts. Does everyone just wear trainers now?

I would normally live in Vans or Superga until it was warm enough for sandals. But I have just bought a pair of pale leather loafers with gold chunky chain and block soles (from M&S so not the height of cool!). Not my usual style at all but they are comfy without socks and look good with wide leg trousers, jeans as well as dresses so feel they cover all my basis and look a bit smarter for occasions when the Vans look a bit scruffy.

Just to add, I live semi rural too so most people dress practically rather than latest trends. Also had to laugh about your old school shoes from 1995 as that is probably around the time I last wore loafers 😆

Ballet flats are back this season!

Maybe those flat leather woven moccasin like shoes? Clarks used to do them. Bit like ballet flats to wear.

Or, what about those wedge heeled espadrilles? Think I saw some last week in M&S. I need something, too!

I've bought two pairs of flat, leather slip-on shoes from M&S recently. I don't wear trainers for work, and I'm not interested in wearing heels any more. They do half sizes too, which suits me.

M&S looks promising and I also just stumbled across espadrilles which have potential…

I tend to wear espadrilles or sturdier covered sandals.

I’m put off by loafers, years ago I had a lovely pair of soft black LK Bennett loafers, nice but hardly any support, I shot up into the air on a hill on hearing a motorbike backfiring and broke my foot (small bones so thought I’d just sprained it until I got an X-ray) landing on it. Owww.
