Has anyone managed to get their (previously thick) hair from thin back to thick again? And how?

I don't have the answer but I would like it!
So hopefully this will bump Smile

Having kids has made my hair so thin.

MoggyMittens23 · 14/05/2023 14:33

@Justme10 thanks! Yes same, here. I used to have lovely hair and now I just don't recognise it. I know it will never be the same but some regrowth would be good. How old are your DC?

Yes course of finestrad and minoxidil

Yep minoxidil worked for me. I love my hair now.

Fortunesmiles · 14/05/2023 18:16

Do you have to keep using minoxidil long-term to maintain the effect?

They are 5 and 2 Grin
My definitely got worse after the second one, it seems to fall out in clumps these days!

I've been keeping my hair shorter than I would like just so it doesn't look so thin, otherwise it's really straggly.
I will definitely be trying these suggestions though.

spillingbeans · 14/05/2023 19:06

I did. I took a complete multi vitamin and that has been the main thing that made a change. I didn't do anything else and didn't previously have vitamins.

Has made a massive difference went from crying about how thin my hair had become to going back to thick hair. I don't think I will be able to grow it really long as I used to but it's certainly much better than it used to be and actually really thick. It does tend to end job looking thinner at the ends over time if I don't cut it though.

End up not end job*

Dox9 · 14/05/2023 19:27

Yes. Mine got so thin I asked my GP to help. My blood tests came back normal and he didn't have any useful suggestions besides seeing a private dermatologist. I didn't see one but started taking lots of supplements: menopace, boots hair and nails gummies, vit d, magnesium. It took over 6 months to see results but now 2 years later my hair is much thicker.

Get your iron and thyroid levels checked in the first instance. Thinning hair can be a symptom of other issues.

MoggyMittens23 · 14/05/2023 20:41

@Justme10 same, i can't grow it out because it just looks awful, having to keep it short atm!

I have never heard of minoxidil so will be looking into that

@spillingbeans cna i ask which multivitamin you take? I have just started with wellwoman and hoping that helps

@LudicrouslyCapaciousBag thank you, I have done thyroid fairly recently but iron, not for years!

I'm using Nioxin at the moment. Been using for some months and I feel it's helping. Plus thickening styling products.

That's what research shows, that if you stop using it the new growth will fall out. It's a big incentive to keep using it.
I was in despair before I started, now I'm happy with my hair and treat it like just another routine item like cleaning teeth.

@OhamIreally hope you don't mind me asking, any side effects that you have noticed?
