does my perfect, petite white t-shirt exist?

All I want is a white, cap sleeve, crew neck, petite, NON-SEE-THROUGH t-shirt.

I'd pay up to £20. Does this unicorn exist anymore?

Ten years ago, M&S were my go-to, but I looked at some in there today and they were so see-through that every bit of the hanger was visible. BHS did fantastic ones but they're long gone and Lands End's ones did the job for a while, but this year's batch are about a foot too long, even in petite, and appear to be cut for a brick body shape.

Dorothy Perkins, Gap, Boden, Next, Teespring, and Cotton On all also seem to specialise in hello-and-have-you-met-my-bra white tees, sigh.

(reposted because I originally put it in the wrong topic)

I got a nice one from new look the other day. Next to the combats

Agree with @Jeansandbeans Cos do great staple T-shirts and vests of a good quality fabric. But be prepared to pay more than £20 for their heavy cotton basics. I picked up a few great v-neck T-shirts from there for £17 each a year ago, but the totally non-see through and non-creasing ones were more. Worth it though.

The Cos ones do look like a promising fabric, but they have huge flappy arms which always looks terrible/stupid on me. Cap sleeves is def the way to go for me, but finding that in a heavier fabric has proved challenging!

Uni Qlo?

hopefullyunrecognisable · 27/03/2023 18:55

Thank you! John Lewis and Uniqlo look promising.

I've tried the Lands End one and even the petite could double as a dress it was that long.

yep, New Look t shirts, 96% cotton, 4% elastane. Unlike other brands, they come up a bit shorter, so you may not need petite.

No cap sleeves, but a "frill" sleeve, that doesn't look too frilly. I bought a 3 pack last week and was very happy. Also got two slash neck ones. I would advise you to size up.

New look do a LOT of cotton.

PS also got the combats! You can size down for those.

CinnamonJellyBeans · 27/03/2023 20:01

...the frill sleeve tees do come in petite

I’ve been pleased with this long sleeve tee https://www.johnlewis.com/thought-gots-organic-cotton-long-sleeve-top/white/p5348238 especially after having tried loads of disappointing see-through options elsewhere.

There’s short sleeved version, though you might have to go down a size https://www.johnlewis.com/thought-organic-cotton-t-shirt/white/p5348203

Fat Face Ivy. It’s cut slim without being tight. It’s not petite but it isn’t long like so many Ts. I’m 5’3 and it works on me. Was recommended to me on MN and was exactly what I wanted! It’s slightly slubby material (rather than Fruit of the Loom style thick solid cotton) which I prefer - I don’t find it see through.

It's hard to get a nice thick cotton. I'm following this with interest. In the meantime, I stick with thinner cotton and wear a skin coloured bra and skin coloured cotton vest which makes the bra invisible. I used to buy these vests by the bucketload in M&S. Now I get them in Sainsburys.

So1invictus · 29/03/2023 19:58

The more expensive M&S ones. Autograph etc. Jaeger. Arket heavyweight. Arket crop. Cos crop.

Seasalt do a lovely petite white T shirt.
