Wedding guest outfit - trousers

Asking for my mother, who isn’t on MN.

We’ve got my cousin’s wedding coming up in June and she’s struggling to find an outfit. She’s 70 and 5ft 8 and, as she has some mobility problems, would prefer to wear trousers and flat shoes.

The problem is, wedding guest outfits seem to be dresses, dresses and more dresses!! The results for “wedding guest trousers” (the ones that don’t come up with menswear) are all tight, high-waisted ones aimed at much younger women.

Does anyone have an ideas for a suitable trouser-based outfit? The wedding is at a nice country hotel, so relatively dressy, but as the aunt rather than the mother of the bride, she won’t be front and centre in photos. Any ideas?

The last 2 weddings I attended, I wore a silk jump suit and a pair of silk trousers with a silk shirt.
Max Mara often have beautiful silk trousers with matching or co-ordinated tops.
Try a search on Zalando for your requirements?

I remember at the 2011 royal wedding, the “style” commentators picked up a woman in a trouser suit. They were horrified. It turned out she was part of the behind the scenes team.

But screw that.

If your mum would prefer trousers then that’s a perfect choice. I’ve seen photos of celebrity weddings (the cooler ones) where trousers were worn. So go mum with the kecks 😊

Sorry, I realise that was no practical help. But I really hate the traditional snobbery. Good you mum gets her outfit and had a great day

Some nice ones here that might suit...

Especially the Caitlyn Lace...

Thank you 🙂 But I should have said, a jumpsuit wouldn’t really be suitable as she walks with a stick, so would struggle getting it up and down.

15 years ago, I was the mother of the groom and wore a peach coloured, silk trouser suit.
Just attended a wedding this week where the Maid of Honour wore a striped navy, wide legged trouser suit with 90's hair and huge pearl earrings. She works in fashion and looked fabulous. No one nowadays needs to conform to old-fashioned ideas of what people should wear at weddings.

I found Boden quite good for 80 year old MIL last year eg https://www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/fluid-wide-leg-trousers-fox/sty-r0298-red?cat=C1S22_G963
