Hi I’ve just discovered I have an allergy to PPD after not dying hair with a permanent dye for 4 years. I had been using a Wella demi permanent in 2019 no problem but just done a skin test and had redness rash and itching. I have about 10 to 15 percent grey. Has anyone had lowlights or similar at a salon using a technique where dye doesn’t touch the skin and also anyone tried Josh Wood ? Does Josh Wood colour give a root line when it grows out or does it fade ? I can’t be bothered with redoing roots regularly and this was the appeal of the Demi permanent. I’ve used Tints of Nature semi permanent but it washes out too quickly. I’ve also used Patrice Mulatto One which is good but very expensive for me as I need two boxes and they are £25 each. It also only colours my grey a shade lighter which I suspect most PPD free colours will do as PPD is the chemical that fixes the colour. I know that Wella ME plus uses a similar chemical PTD that some people who are allergic manage to tolerate but I’m reluctant to have a whole head of permanent colour again.

I'm allergic to PPD and Touline 2 5 Diamine l, not tried lowlights but have found some of the Swarzkopf dyes dont contain either.

@Perpetualstateofchaos Thank you, how did you find out you were allergic to those specific ingredients? I’m presuming I’ve got a PPD allergy as that’s the most common. Which Swarzkopft dyes did you use please ?
@Myjobisanightmare thank you for replying, when you say that lowlights didn’t work do you mean you still had a reaction ?

Trial and error as i react to most diamines full head to toe rash and chemical burns. Its some of the red ones, cranberry bliss and ruby glaze i can use bitter sweet chocolate apparently is coming out without diamines.

@Perpetualstateofchaos Omg that sounds very severe. Im
guessing that you had more of a reaction to the darker shade as it would contain more PPD.

It was horrendous my 1st reaction i was told i had to lose my earrings (new piercings) or lose my ear. Reds browns and blacks not tried blonde dues as wouldnt work on my hair i can bleach it and go funky colours although some on the highstreet still contain diamines. So im currently purple

@Perpetualstateofchaos I think the problem with bleach is whilst this is often ok the toners often contain PPD

Thats right many toners do contain it ive managed to find some that done i always check ingredients before i buy any

Sorry i meant it look shit utterly pointless I need to cover the grey so if the colour isn’t right at my roots it’s pointless
