After 2 babies back to back, covid and breastfeeding I lost my style mojo and my makeup bag is an EMBARRASSMENT.

I’m looking to start from scratch with it. If you were putting together your best ever makeup products, what would you recommend?

(In case helpful, I’m 37, dark haired and hazel eyed with pale freckly skin, partial to a bold coloured lip and too attached to my winged eyeliner. I haven’t historically worn foundation but keen to try anything!)

Looking for recommendations for eyeliner, under eye concealer, eyeshadow compact, bronzer, blusher, lipstick, eyebrow stuff, brushes - what else?

Im happy to invest in the right products.

Thanks so much for any ideas!

When i can afford it:

Hourglass veil primer. (the.most.beautiful.stuff)
Estee Lauder double wear foundation. (stays on all day. one bottle lasts me 6 months)
Liz Earl cleanser (i know you asked for make up but ...)
Urban Decay eye shadow pallet. (lovely matte nude shades which stay on)
Revitalash eyelash serum. (again not make up - but It Works)

AYU eyeliner and under eye concealer and brushes

Estee Lauder DW foundation

Maybelline Collosal mascara

Laiste · 25/03/2023 16:50

Maybelline Collosal mascara

Oooh yeah - is as good as much higher ££££ mascaras IMO.

these suggestions are brilliant, thank you!

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor @Laiste which colossal mascara would you recommend? There seems to be quite a few…

Estee Lauder double wear and the double wear mascara (with the Christian Bretton eyelash builder)

Dior quad eyeshadow or Tom Ford quad

Lancome lipsticks

Dior forever skin concealer (used for concealer and eye primer)

Victoria Beckham eye liners

Benefit POREfessional primer because it'll be sunny and I'd be an oily mess without it 😁

I know right, confusing! Yellow tube with mauve writing on it.

If your skin is in good nick and you dont mind spending - Chantecaille or Suqqu foundation. Your skin will look flawless.

Concealer- NARS

Eyeshadow palettes - Morphe, Tarte, Bobbi Brown... doesn't matter as long as you go for one that blends well in colours you'll use a lot.

Lipstick- who cares. It's the one thing you reapply a lot, just choose colours your love in formulations that work for you.

Bronzer - e.l.f do good pots of cream bronzers in warm and neutrals. Other than that, Benefit Hoola is good, really finely milled and no shimmer if you want it for contour. It's got enough grey that it works in a shadowed way. Very few people with your skin tone look good in the orangey 'warm' bronze shades.

Eyebrow stuff - very individual as to what effect you want. If it's a fairly natural look, any pencil in the right tone will see you right.

Brushes - buy the best you can afford from a good brand. But before you do - really think about how you want to apply make up: I hardly ever use brushes unless I'm doing a more complicated eye look - for foundation I use fingers and a sponge. For concealer - finger. For cream eyeshadows- finger. For cream bronzer - finger. I use a fluffy powder brush to set everything but that's about it.

Sometimes we think we need all the gear but in reality it just sits there.

Can any one suggest a pressed powder for when one becomes a bit hot and flashy?Asking for a friend obvs.

Pigtailsandall · 25/03/2023 21:31

Benefit goof proof eye brow pen. My brows are perfect.

I don't wear foundation, but I love the Nars tinted moisturiser andit lasts ages and offers decent cover. I also have a bobbi brown concealer which I love.

QuizzlyBears · 25/03/2023 21:37

Another vote for the benefit eyebrow pencil. Too Faced better than sex mascara and Nars concealer.

TwirlyGalaxy · 25/03/2023 21:59

Maybelline Collosal mascara
NYX Microbrow
Chanel cream bronzer
Bobbi Brown Face Base

Laiste · 26/03/2023 09:13

Re: maybelline collosal - i buy the fat yellow one in waterproof.

Laiste · 26/03/2023 09:14

Victoria Beckham eyeliner interests me.
I have yet to find a liquid liner which properly stays put.

Cyanchicken · 26/03/2023 09:48

Stila liquid eyeliner pen
Double wear foundation
Nars eyeshadows
Benefit gimme brow
Lisa Eldridge lipsticks
Maybelline super stay ink crayon lipstick
I like the Mac mineralise skin finish setting powder - lasted me about 5 years! But I'm not a huge powder user

I like the Charlotte tilbury bronzer as I'm v fair / freckles but really swear by a facial tanner spray by st tropez from now on (watermelon one)

GettingStuffed · 26/03/2023 10:09

My make up bag is full of things I've got in glossybox. My favourite item is the Milk lip and cheek stick. It's handy to pop in my handbag if I'm going out and need a top up (and forget I've got it )

Lotsofpots · 26/03/2023 10:19

Lisa Eldridge foundation

Beauty pie under eye illuminator and concealer (and brush)

Beauty pie tinted brow gel

Victoria Beckham eyeliners

Lisa Eldridge, hourglass or Laura Mercier lipsticks

Eyeshadows - Charlotte tilbury or lisa Eldridge

The new beauty pie tubing mascara is also very good.

Lotsofpots · 26/03/2023 10:20

Oh and for bronzer/blusher I'm a big fan of jones road, though I know their balms are marmite for many. Blended with a brush I think they're perfection.
