AIBU to use stick-on nails?

My nails are suddenly weak and like paper after successive gel manicures since Christmas. They just break daily and snag on anything. I've cut them really really short and am taking biotin as well as using strengthening treatments, but still even when they are really short they are so weak that they break in contact with anything eg computer keyboard use, wiping surfaces, picking up stuff.

Would I be silly to cover them in false stick on ones while they grow, to allow the (hopefully) stronger base nail to grow through? Or would using those just make matters worse?

Have you thought about trying gel toppers, something like Builder in a Bottle at the salon? My natural nails grew really well when I started having this done and they used to snap really easily.
