How can I make this dress suitable for a wedding?

I have bought this dress for a wedding next month. As the picture shows it is very booby. I’m absolutely not going to go braless so I was wondering if there was something I could wear underneath or if I could get it altered so there’s less boobs on show?

I’ve had a hard time finding any dresses that I like at the moment and feel in love with this when I saw it. Has anyone seen anything similar? I think it’s the embroidery that I love so much. Thank you!

Could you put a popper or hook and eye on the neck line? Have you received it and tried it on?
if you can’t close the neckline a bit then you might have to wear a vest top underneath. You could get one in a toning colour.

Kaftankween · 20/03/2023 08:56

Also, it’s a really pretty dress. Hope you feel lovely in it

If you can sew you could get a triangular scrap of material in same colour as embroidery & sew it into the front.

You could also buy similar coloured embroidery thread & sew it in a criss-cross up the V.

Popper/ribbon combo are an excellent idea at the shoulders to hold bra straps/shoulders together too.

Agree it’s a lovely dress & I hope you have a great day.

You can buy modesty panels that hook onto your bra. There's simple black and white ones on ebay which will show what you could do. Or you might be able to buy more exciting ones on etsy. I'd probably wear a very fine vest top or possibly a slip if you can get a nice enough colour

Snowjokes · 20/03/2023 09:46

I’d try wearing a vest top or slip underneath, in one of the colours of the embroidery. The seam under the boobs might not sit quite right then though, I think you’d need to try it and check.

SacreBlue · 20/03/2023 10:01

Good idea about the modesty panels Rock

I’ve always loads of material scraps so was mentally hoking through my own stash in my head 🤣

YY to finding a modesty panel as that would be good mid-point between sewing and a vest top - less work & less chance of altering line of dress under bust.

Im very booby and have this issue with a lot of nice dresses! I have worn vest tops under, added a piece of fabric, sewn up the neckline (affects the shape though) but the absolute brilliant solution I’ve found is wearing a lace bandeau. usually found in the underwear section they come in all colours and can be worn on their own under the dress or with a bra under.
I find this the most comfortable, which maintains the lines of the dress, is not too hot and looks pretty and intentional.

something like….

Or a sequin bandeau? Make a feature of it!

heres a pretty pink lace one which might complement the embroidery well

I had a dress with a similar issue. I chose to sew up some of the deep ‘V’ which worked well. Try pinning it shut and see if the rest of it hangs ok.

If you’d rather not sew, just wear a white vest top / bralet.

Girlattheback · 20/03/2023 19:30

lovely dress. I usually wear a boob tube in the same colour as the dress if too much is on show. This one looks the same sort of pale green as your dress. You can always safety pin to your bra if you’re worried about slippage.

DelphiniumBlue · 20/03/2023 19:38

I think I'd go for a deep plunge bra. Like this:Deep plunge wonderbra

MissCherryCakeyBun · 20/03/2023 19:52

It's a stunning dress @sundaymorningcall can I ask where it's from

TennisWithDeborah · 20/03/2023 19:54

What a lovely dress!

CurlsLDN · 21/03/2023 09:29

Forget slips and vests and what-have-you. What you need is a dressmaker who will add two strips of some beautiful fabric along the inside of each side of the V, from the shoulder to the meeting point. (Depending on the fabric, (and your own build) you could have just a plain addition or enough to make a light tie or bow that hangs down the front. This would also add gravitas, making the dress slightly more formal.

Buttalapasta · 21/03/2023 21:16

I agree with @SurpriseSparDay . I think a dressmaker is the best option. (I'm surprised nobody has said it's rather white for a wedding though - or are you the bride?)

SurpriseSparDay · 21/03/2023 21:59

I’m seeing pale green! But photos can be deceptive.

Just what I was about to ask

17to35 · 22/03/2023 18:11

I agree wholeheartedly with surprisesparday. Could you lose a few cm in length and use the fabric to add to the inside of the V ?

The dress is green!!!! I wonder will this be like the dress that went viral a few years ago where people saw different colours.

sundaymorningcall · 30/03/2023 21:11

Thank you all so much for taking the time to reply I appreciate every single comment ! I‘ve decided not to wear the dress 🙈 it is so beautiful but I don’t think I’d feel comfortable in it. The wonderbra would have been perfect if it wasn’t for my H cup boobs! I had considered getting a few inches off the bottom and have that sewn in but then I was worried it wouldn’t look right and I’d be back to square one.

Instead I’m going to wear this one from Chi Chi London. They have some amazing dresses and will definitely be the 1st place I look next time.

@sundaymorningcall you have really good taste, both beautiful dresses.
Can I ask if you have tried the Chi Chi dress on? Is it good quality material & true to size? Need something for a wedding & after your post I have fallen in love with a few dresses on their website (you should be on commission!!!!)

sundaymorningcall · 31/03/2023 10:11

Thanks @Newmum110 yes I tried it on and the quality and finish is really good. I had to size up just to be sure it would fit round my chest and it’s perfect. I ordered 3 different dresses and loved them all but had to send 2 back as I couldn’t afford them all. There’s 20% off until Sunday or Monday. They had a similar offer last weekend so even if you’re not ready to buy just yet I’m sure there will be more offers in the future. I hope you find the perfect dress too!
