Is there such a thing as a foldable umbrella that isn't flimsy and crappy?

If anyone has ever found one or knows of a company that makes such a thing I'd love to know. Happy to cough up for something that isn't utterly shite.

Does it have to be umbrella? Mountain Buggy Nano is good and I’d argue easier to carry than a long cumbersome umbrella stroller. It folds up square and has a shoulder strap.

I’ve seen anti wind ones on Amazon, haven’t got one myself though.

The Davek umbrellas are good 👍🏻

These are really sturdy: rokalondon.com/collections/waterloo

Seconding Davek.

They do really tiny ones, too, that take up hardly any space in my commuting work bag.

PurpleParrotfish · 20/03/2023 07:14

Yes, I got one from this company a few years ago (photos look a bit different from mine and this isn’t the UK site www.repelumbrella.com/collections/travel-umbrella

It came with a lifetime guarantee and has wind vents. But it weighs over twice what my standard folding umbrella weighs so I only take it out in crappy weather, I don’t carry it around in my bag just in case.

Floisme · 20/03/2023 08:37

The only decent one I ever came across didn't fold up so was impractical for carrying about. It also weighed a ton and at 5.3', I was a danger to others with it because I had to hold it at their eye level.
I don't waste my time with them any more. I carry a waxed cotton bucket hat around in my bag instead and, in bad weather, wear a coat with a hood.

Bellaisoneluckywoman · 20/03/2023 09:32

@Floisme I know just what you mean. I'd given up on umbrellas and had been relying on Rains Mac with hood or rainproof hat in bag. The only trouble with that is that I end up never wearing my wool coats as hat covers head/hair but nothing else.

Many thanks all for these tips and links. Like the Davek ones - particularly because of the strap so you can attach them to handbag rather than try to cram them in (espec when wet).

Blunt Umbrellas are fantastic. Extremely sturdy and they come in beautiful colours. They're not cheap but they just don't fall apart like cheap ones.

I second Blunt, expensive but durable.

ChiefPearlClutcher · 20/03/2023 10:07

Also came to say Blunt

Mercurial123 · 20/03/2023 10:10

I have a Blunt umbrella it's really good but heavy and quite big.

MassiveSalad22 · 20/03/2023 12:56

🤣totally read this as umbrella stroller, not just umbrella. Glad everyone ignored my madness 😄

Barbour do very sturdy ones.
