Casual jacket with wide leg trousers?

Hello,

Can anyone advise me of a style of jacket that would look good with wide leg trousers and a fitted top tucked in? Returning to work after maternity leave and body has changed dramatically. After trying pretty much the whole of next & m&s on I've decided what looks best is a fitted top tucked into tailored wide leg trousers with nice trainers. It's a smart casual/ cool environment so a blazer style with this is too formal, what else could I wear?

Thanks!

I always seem to defer to a denim jacket with wide legged trousers as I don't like anything too oversized on the top - but maybe not suitable for work?
Last year I bought a fabulous M&S 3/4 sleeve black denim blouson shirt/jacket, but with no collar - which I absolutely love with wide bottoms

Blog post with pics that should be helpful:

I always go for a denim jacket too. Or if in colder weather maybe a warmer, fitted blazer?

A bomber would be cool and they are very in at the moment
try hush - the topaz one is cool, Zara, nice one in John Lewis too

If you can watch The Diplomat on Alibi, the black haired girl in the embassy wears cropped jackets with her wide leg trousers. They look so cool I’m going to steal the idea. She has an amazing orange one.

Something like this?

I was going to say a bomber too. Or what about one of the round necked boucle cropped jackets. I saw a nice one today but it was covered in gold buttons which put me off.

Some great ideas thankyou, a bomber would be brill! I'll go and have a look now and report back if I find anything suitable. Will also read the blog post. Thanks guys! 😁

Also yes my immediate thought was denim jacket but not sure we are quite there with the weather yet!

The esprit one is lovely but I think too formal. I think I need to be more causal but not scruffy, it's a fine line isn't it!

Cropped jacket all the way! Ideally quite fitted and in a fabric that has some structure (nothing floppy like jersey). Anything else looks a bit sloppy with wide trousers, I think.

ALLIS0N · 19/03/2023 19:46

A blazer is not formal when work with a tee shirt, jeans and trainers.

Military/utility style - jacket or shacket
Blouson /silk /denim bomber

Mac
Shearling pilot jacket

A leather or faux leather biker jacket would look nice; I wear mine with everything!

Don’t be too slavish about “ the top half has to be fitted “ trope because it can end up being very middle of the road. What has been interesting in more recent times are the looser looks that have been around. So looser blazer with the trousers might look very contemporary depending on how wide and how high waisted the trousers are. I wear shorter jackets with my Cos high waist trousers because the legs are wider but my M&S wide leg don’t need that. You could layer a trench style / light coat over the top in any case and that layering look is still current. Alternatively a short quilted jacket or “liner” coats are still pretty prevalent.

Thank you everyone, I've gone for the hush bomber 😁
