How to wear Mulberry Lily

Inspired by the Bayswater thread!

I have a Mulberry Lily, bought pre-Covid as a gift to reward myself for a big promotion. Covid sadly brought that career to an end and I no longer have a smart office to go to. I now work from home in a job I don't enjoy (another thread altogether!) and in a very casual environment when I do go into the office. I almost never dress up to go out socially, either.

How can I get some use out of my Lily? I love it but it always feels ridiculously OTT when I wear it because of the gold chain strap. Am I right about this, or being too self-conscious? How could I incorporate it into my day-to-day wear?

It's this one:

It would be perfect for attending special events, concerts, plays. I agree with you, I wouldn’t wear it to the supermarket or on the school run.

I wear mine with jeans and a long coat. She's bright yellow so makes everything pop.

@TwoManyKids you sound fab. I love the yellow Mulberry bags. Does it have a gold chain too? This is the kind of look I want to go for but haven't felt confident enough to pull it off.

I wear a gold chained handbag as my every day one! Rain or shine, supermarket or meal out. Its a lovely bag and I think would go with everything, it's such a classic colour.

Thanks @Mrcpy I hardly go out to those things anymore, but maybe it's a good incentive to get me back out there!

See I would wear it on the school run! It’s a soft brown bag, wear cross body with a trench coat, jeans loafers etc.

poundshoptealights · 19/03/2023 16:34

Loving all this validation of it as a casual bag! This is giving me more courage.

Same. I don’t think the strap makes it too much at all.

ScoobyDoNot · 19/03/2023 16:48

Life is too short, wear the bag with anything and everything and enjoy it!

MyDogStoodOnABee · 19/03/2023 16:50

I was expecting something ostentatious! It’s just a bog standard neutral looking bag, get it worn!

TheBermudaTriangle · 19/03/2023 16:51

This is a great everyday bag!

I wear mine with a long coat, jeans or casual dress/tights/boots etc.

stopringingme · 19/03/2023 17:04

I would wear that anytime I wanted to, why should it be hidden away for special - wear it and enjoy it.

poundshoptealights · 19/03/2023 17:06

Thank you, everyone! I think I have been apologising for myself a bit since going through a tough patch. I have now gotten the Lily out of its dust bag and will be using it as my regular handbag Grin

Do you have boots or shoes in the same shade of brown? It will look more pulled together if you do. Also gold jewellery/watch strap to match in the bag strap, it will make it stand out less if your whole outfit “goes”.

poundshoptealights · 19/03/2023 17:25

@LimeCheesecake I have dark brown and conker brown boots but not tan boots. I wear very little jewellery but what I do have is all gold and my watch strap is brown leather, so should fit your description!

I wear mine (tan brown) all the time; school run, super market, shopping, dinner, lunch etc.

It's easy to wear with most things and I will wear with trainers, I don't need to match to footwear.

I've got a black one that similarly goes everywhere but also to smarter events with the chain folded over.

thedevilinablackdress · 19/03/2023 17:50

Life is too short not to wear your bag. Perfect for a jeans/trainers/blazer type outfit wherever you're going.

LimeCheesecake · 19/03/2023 18:00

The slight disaster here is now I’ve been thinking about this bag and well - I have tan knee boots it would look great with over my dark green wool coat in winter. It would look good over my beige trench in spring. I have tan sandals and think it would look good with a summer dress, or straight leg jeans and linen shirt.

what I’m trying to say is I’ve now realised there’s a mulberry Lilly shaped hole in my wardrobe and it’s something I should rectify…

TwoManyKids · 19/03/2023 19:40

Mine today. Love her.

I wore my black regular Lily cross body to the supermarket today, with jeans and converse!

It’s been my everyday bag for a few months now, since I decided to use it over the Christmas period and then was too lazy to swap out my stuff.

troppibambini6 · 19/03/2023 20:02

Absolutely wear it every day and definitely don't worry about matching to your shoes sorry but that's such an old fashioned thing to do.
It will go with anything and would look great dressed down with trainers.

mac1974 · 19/03/2023 20:05

You can definitely use an oak lily as a day to day bag. It's nice crossbody but it can be a bit uncomfortable if it gets too heavy because of the chain.
Just use it and enjoy it. Honestly, nobody will think it's too much for day to day.

@TwoManyKids you look great. If I saw you out and about I would want to be your friend!
