My natural hair colour is light reddish brown, mostly light brown but it has very warm tones which I don't like. I've kept it dye free for the last few years because box dyes fade very quickly to a really brassy tone no matter what I do (have tried every blue/green shampoo under the sun with no sucesss) However I now have quite a lot of greys which I'd like to cover, and as I don't even like my natural hair colour I feel like it's time to move on.

My dream colour is a light/medium Ash brown and I have achieved this in the past at the hairdressers (hit and miss though, sometimes it's still been very warm). I can't afford to go back to the hairdressers so I'm going it alone. I've tried esalon but unfortunately I didn't find it any better than box dye and it faded quickly to a brassy light brown. This time I'd like to buy professional colour and developer myself but I don't know where to start! The Koleston range seems to have great reviews but I'd be grateful if anyone knowledgeable could offer some tips as there are so many shades and I don't know where to start!
