So upset about my hair.

I have very fine fly away but tight curls.
For about two years I wore sew in extensions and the last time I wore them I didn't take them out for 8 weeks which was about 2 weeks too long and since then so much of my hair has snapped off.

It also looks like I am thinning on top. I don't know if that was always there or if the extrensions could have done that too. But I don't think the hair extensions were ever sewn in that high.

I've been using hair masks and quality shampoos and conditioners like olaplex. But my hair is so dry and thin.

Ive not worn hair extensions for a year now and I see no improvement. I don't know whether to use minoxidil as that's for genetic balding as far as I understand. Both my parents have thin hair but they are not balding really.

I've also been taking hair and nail vitamins which I've noticed a difference in my nails but not hair.

It's getting me down more than I'd like to admit. I don't know what to do. I'm defo not going to GP about this. Has anyone got any advice?

Go to your GP, sorry 🤷

I'm chasing my GP about many much more serious things. Which won't be affecting my hair. I can't waste my chasing time on something aesthetic.

I know you don't want to go to the GP but they will take this seriously. As well as being an aesthetic problem, hair loss is related to health concerns. They should arrange blood tests and possibly a dermatology referral after that if no cause found. I've referred several patients and they've received help and prescriptions from dermatology.

Could it be menopause related? HRT really made a difference when I started to lose my hair. I also have lupus which can cause hair loss / thinning. Definitely a job for the Gp, sorry!

You could try searching for a trichologist near you. They should be able to help.

Olaplex has been in the news lately for causing exactly the problems you're describing. Dump the brand and buy into Keraste for thinning hair. Also JS health have tablets called Hair and Energy which helps new hair growth (I had the worst post partum hair loss imaginable). So sorry you're going though this but I bet people don't see it as badly as you do. Good luck x

You can also do an online consultation with Philip Kingsley, it’s expensive though. Best to get the blood tests at your GP and can then be armed with those results when you speak to a tricologist (if that’s the route you want to take).

This was an interesting video on hair loss on Insta. It depends what the problem is though obviously!

Look, you can waste time chasing the dr or you can waste time buying masks that wont affect the scalp anyway because good hair comes from the inside. Hair is a sign of overall health.

I apply rosemary oil to my scalp mixed in with the ordinarys squalene every night and wear a bonnet in bed and my hairs so much thicker at the roots after 4 months.

Look for moisturising products not protein based, too much protein, keratin can ruin hair.

I was losing hair at a higher rate than usual last year. Making hair balls on the carpet when I vacuumed, visible in the shower where it wasn't before etc. I started HRT in nov for other symptoms and it's stopped falling out and now I have toddler-like new growth all over my head.

Hair loss may be tied in with the other things you have going on and may be a symptom, depending on what you need sorting. Absolutely worth mentioning to your gp as it may even make your case for the other stuff stronger.

Good luck!
