Hello, i'm looking for thick, non shiny black mostly cotton leggings. NOT gym leggings, I don't want shiny material, does anyone have any that they love? TIA

A good pair of black leggings is a staple item in every woman’s wardrobe. To help you find that perfect pair, here are the stand-out leggings in this thread:

-M&S Collection High Waisted Leggings, £12.50

Sainsbury's Tu luxury ones. £10 ish a pair. (Not the 2 pack). And they are bloody brilliant.

I second Love Leggings, literally wear the same two pairs on rotation most days and wash them after every 1-2 wears, they have worn really well!

adrianmolesmole · 14/03/2023 21:48

I third loveleggings! I have three pairs - the everyday high-waisted ones with the wide waistband are fantastic, thick, comfy and wash well.

tiredhadenough · 14/03/2023 22:09

Primark fleecy lined ones are amazing!!!

Clevs · 14/03/2023 22:12

Love Leggings. I find they come up a bit small but are really thick and not see through!

CornishTiger · 14/03/2023 22:13

Sainsbury’s £10 ones get my vote if you want a thick waistband.

I however prefer the two pack due to my muffin top but out of stock at mo.

Next ponte leggings

I second these! Best leggings I've had, comfy, stretchy, high waisted and thick material. Im 5'2" and the short leg are perfect for me (I hate when leggings that gather at the bottom).

Sainsburys as others said.

Have thought about trying Love Leggings…

TheChosenTwo · 14/03/2023 22:31

Oh god I bought a 2 pack in M&S just before Christmas, they have both been binned (one pair in January and the other in feb!) because they already had massive holes in the crotch. Finding that with all their stuff that I’ve bought over the last couple of years actually, knickers for me, pjs for ds and boxers for dh, the quality seems to be absolutely atrocious (along the lines of what I imagine primark to be!!).

boboshmobo · 14/03/2023 22:33

I bought some mint velvet yesterday and they have changed them !
They were see through !

HelloBunny · 14/03/2023 22:38

Check out TK Maxx for DKNY leggings. Lots of them are 95 cotton / 5 elastane. Of course some have a massive logo, but there’s nice plain black ones too.

I'm going to try some of these suggestions. I've not sound a good pair in ages. They have to feel a certain way I'm very picky. I don't want them right but also not baggy. Always get a baggy crotch cos the size that fits my hips won't fit my waist or legs (thick thighs ) but also can't be restricting on my belly or it causes back pain with gastro problems and I just get crabbing
Seem to only be good the first wear age crap after a wash.

Sneakyblinders · 14/03/2023 22:41

I didn't get on with Love Leggings - shrunk in the wash. I like Boden leggings but maybe will try the M&S ones.

Tried mint velvet too and found them a bit saggy!

I also get back problems and UTIs from having my stomach compressed and the bottom of my spine.

Sainsburys ponte leggings are good, non shiny and not see through either

Ladyofthelake53 · 15/03/2023 08:42

No baggy knees either as they have lycra

Noooo! I've just ordered some more online so I hope they are okay when they come. They are (used to be) my absolute favourites.

boboshmobo · 15/03/2023 09:38

@cwanne I know .. gutted!
Hopefully you will get a pair like the old ones !

DorothyBinns · 15/03/2023 13:38

All Saints - not cotton but they definitely won't sag. Thick and flattering.

catinboooots · 15/03/2023 13:46

Synophant from Amazon. So so good

DelphiniumBlue · 15/03/2023 16:26

I just love the Boden ones, I've had 4 over the last 15 years or so! They wash well, retain colour and shape, and are definitely high enough on the waist on me ( and accommodate my fat tummy comfortably) in my normal size.
I had a clear out the other day of all the other cheaper alternatives I've tried, M&S ones were baggy on the knee from day one and the seam up the back and around the waistband was itchy, Tu were a bit short in the waist and thinner than the Boden ones, Primark not deep enough.
I also like Snag footless tights/shorts with dresses.

I've just chucked out some very old DKNY cropped leggings that were part of a pyjama set, they were so comfortable but eventually disintegrated ( after well over a decade). I'll definitely check out TK Maxx now! Even though I love my Boden ones!

LlynTegid · 15/03/2023 17:16

Black jeans not an alternative option for you?

lljkk · 18/03/2023 08:53

How long do you gals reckon a pair of good quality black not activewear leggings "should last" ? Expressed as hours of wearing, or # wears if you think each wear is say, 12 hours. 20? 50? 200 ?

Assuming you are fairly active, chasing kids, lots of walking, the occasional bike ride. I have a lot of very worn out leggings, and am trying to figure out what is reasonable price for new ones. Thanks for thread.

Ladybird2023 · 18/03/2023 09:11

I always go for maternity leggings, love the feeling of no waistband squeezing in when you sit down.

I’ve had one particular black pair from Seraphine for several years and they’re still in great condition! To answer the question above, I’ve maybe worn them for…. 1200 hours?
