Where to look for an evening dress

I'm going to a ball next month and I need something to wear. I usually wear pretty casual stuff when going out - like a nice top with jeans - so I'm not sure where to start. I'm quite pear shaped (focus on the waist, not on the hips and thighs would be good!) and a deep autumn, so I want to avoid black / navy / etc. Any suggestions?

Rent one from Hurr or similar. Enjoy!

I did well on eBay - I found styles I liked in selfridges and looked for those designers second hand.

Coast. Although pricey you can sometimes get some dresses reduced from £100 to £20 and the quality is amazing. Or try Vinted if there's a specific one you are looking for x

Oh, I hadn’t thought of renting or second hand. Will also look at Coast - thanks!

I actually got my last one from Roman.

it’s always worth looking online on next as they stock lots of brands and are good for returns

I was at a ball in October, and had a similar issue. I’m mid-40s, size 16-18, and a very definite pear!
Next online carry other brands, and I got a couple to try from Lipsy, which pleasantly surprised me, as I’d always thought them a little ‘cheap’ and probably too young for me. I ended up with one from Coast, but secondhand from eBay. Debenhams also used to be really good for this type of thing, but I realise I don’t know what they even have online any more…
good luck!

John Lewis rent dresses I think so you could try there.

TK Maxx can be a good, cheap source.

John lewis do a good range of evening gowns.

Type in adrianna papell and Gina bacconi

You have to order them in.

It's worth order say a dozen into store. Trying them on in store and immediately sending the ones you don't want back. I did it on credit card as they 100-300 each.
