Are people really wearing boot-cut jeans again?

I feel a bit of a fake and a phoney on here being neither stylish nor beautiful. In fact I've just been on the Asda George site for some cheap jeans and have been surprised by the number of boot-cut options? Is this a thing again? Or is it over now that it's got as far as George? I'm not a huge fan, and to be honest believe that you should only wear a fashion once (if you are old enough to have worn 80's first time around, you probably shouldn't wear them the second).

Do I need to stockpile the remaining 'slim' jeans that I favour before I have to return to baggy ankles?

Wear what you want. Boot cuts are back, which is handy as that’s all I wear (I personally can’t stand skinny jeans, they do not look good on anyone). But that’s my opinion, each to their own.

"Again"?

Still.

skippy67 · 07/03/2023 10:51

More of a "slim flare", than bootcut.

MissyB1 · 07/03/2023 10:51

I’ve never stopped wearing them! The whole skinny thing thankfully passed me by (I look ridiculous in skinnies).

Nowi · 07/03/2023 10:52

Don’t suit me but it’s either wear them or bin as they aren’t good enough for charity shop, but too good to bin. All my other trousers have had to be binned so I have to wear them or buy new.

Littlefaeries · 07/03/2023 10:54

I wore flares in the 70's.
I wear bootcut jeans now because they suit me.
My legs are my best asset and even my adult dd, who has short legs like her dad, says i look good in my jeans.
There are styles that suit people and then there are fashion victims.

This.
Boot cuts are the only jeans that are flattering on me.

My 17 year old has a couple pairs.

Why though? Who says? Sounds like ageist BS to me.
I've got great tops, knitwear and a few dresses from the 80s and 90s. I wear them with updated accessories, e.g. trainers instead of the winkle pickers I adored in the late 80s.
Should I shovel everything into landfill because of some arbitrary "rules"?

CatOnTheChair · 07/03/2023 11:17

Well, I was old enough to wear them in the 80s, and I'm still wearing them now.
Personally, I'm pleased if the amount of jeggings and skinnys in the shops reduces and gives people the chance to buy what suits, not just what's fashionable.

ArianahX · 07/03/2023 11:22

I looked in the River Island online (as they are quite a 'fashion' store) at the Jeans section to get an idea of what's in fashion and they are selling a wide variety of styles!!

From skinnies to wide leg's & everything in between, including a pair of boot cuts.
The 'trending' jeans (ie the ones which customers are currently buying the most) seem to be 'mid rise skinny' and 'slim mom'.

I did like the 'slim mom' jeans as I have similar 'mid rise slim' jeans from Next that I like to wear.

When I'm out and about I generally see women wearing a mixture of skinny / slim, mom, straight leg & wide leg jeans.

Minesril · 07/03/2023 11:24

I've recently bought a magnificent pair of full on flares. I have to tuck them into my socks when cycling though which is not a problem you get with skinnies!

KirstenBlest · 07/03/2023 11:25

Yes, they're back @BaroldBalonz . I kept mine from when they were last in, and I'll be hanging on to my skinnies too.

From people watching, I'd say any shape goes, but the young & stylish seem to be in bootlegs.

Best trousers I've seen this week were harem (the ones with a very low crotch) pants. A young woman looked great in them. She was tall and slim.

Briallen · 07/03/2023 11:25

They are back but also I’ve seen skinnies and flares and also mom jeans in most shops. i think it’s basically wear what you like. I have some boot cut, mom jeans and skinnies and I wear whichever ones go best with the top or shoes I’m wearing. I’m 35 now and past caring if they’re in fashion or not!

TeachesOfPeaches · 07/03/2023 11:26

Low rise is also back

KirstenBlest · 07/03/2023 11:31

I remember seeing someone wear bootlegs when bootlegs were not worn. She had a sort of Carolyn Bessette/hippy vibe and she rocked it.
I have bootlegs, straights and skinny, and one pair of mom-jeans (which make me look like I have a large belly)

seratoninmoonbeams · 07/03/2023 11:32

I just wear what I want and what feels like it flatters me. Haven't really given a shit about what's in or not since my teens.

KirstenBlest · 07/03/2023 11:32

I don't have any very low rise jeans as they seem to have the waist on my hips, with a belly sticking out above it. I don't have a big tummy.

Mrsvyvyan · 07/03/2023 11:40

I like them but I can’t go back to my Britney Spears style early 2000 ways, no way. I just want to wear straight leg jeans but what are people calling them now; mum jeans? 😒

KirstenBlest · 07/03/2023 12:26

Boyfriend or girlfriend, @Mrsvyvyan , or Straight.
I never got into the whale tail look.
Mum jeans are high/medium rise, loose over tum, hips and thighs and tapered at the ankle.
