Philips Lumea - no results after 4 treatments

Hi, just wondering if anyone else has had zero success with the Philips Lumea?

I should be the ideal candidate, dark hair and extremely pale skin, but despite following the instructions to the letter via the app, I am now 4 treatments in (2 weeks each apart, so 8 weeks since first treatment) and the hair is growing back just as normal. Using the highest setting, have shaved before treatment as it states to. (I only use it on my underarms and bikini line, as my leg hairs are fair and thin so I don't mind continuing to shave legs.)

No thinning, or slowdown in growth, I am so utterly disappointed and feel like I've totally wasted my money.

That happened to me but then 6 or 7 treatments later I looked in the mirror and realised I had big patches of hair free skin. It took a while, like 4 months? 5?

My results were almost instant tbh, but as long as your colouring is as you describe then I'm sure after another treatment or two you'll see fab results. It's been life changing for me.

FlamingoFlock · 05/03/2023 21:48

Thanks for the replies, I've never seen anyone with my skin/hair combo say that they've had no results at all so I was surprised. Will persevere but it's getting a bit disheartening tbh

Keep going! I found that my lower legs became permanently hair free after a few treatments, but armpits took many more attempts.

MissAtomicBomb1 · 05/03/2023 22:07

Under arms are very stubborn! You will probably have to keep going for months. It does eventually work though

LadyKnot · 05/03/2023 22:15

Underarm and chin have been so stubborn over 10 treatments and still not clear I hear it's hormonal . My legs responded quickly within 4 treatments but weirdly my arms didnt show progress until about 6 or 7 and it was only ever big patches of hairlessness rather than fully hair free and I thought I was very thorough. It helped but it never made me fully hair free but it lessened growth by 80% by 12th session. I neglected doing my arms and over about 18 months it all grew back again.

Nothing falls out immediately - you have to wait until the roots die and then eventually you will see that the hairs just start coming off in patches, or if you continue to shave they will grow back less and less.

It took me a year to get a decent result on my legs. Pale skin and dark Terminator style thick hair.
Two years on I still do a quick zap every fortnight but my legs are smooth.

Lindy2 · 05/03/2023 22:51

I found it took about 6 treatments to suddenly see a difference. My device is a different brand where it's recommended to use weekly.

My whole legs and underarms are pretty much hair free now. I only get the odd hairs come through here and there. About once every 2 - 3 weeks I use a razor and then do an IPL treatment. It all only takes about 10 - 15 minutes now though and is just a basic maintenance treatment to keep the hsirs away.

I so wish IPLs had been around when I was in my teens and 20s. I spent so much time and effort trying to get rid of unwanted hair. It's been a life changer for me.

FortyFacedFuckers · 05/03/2023 23:41

I got a result really quickly but being honest I used it much more often than advised but don't give it it's so worth it!

Branster · 06/03/2023 07:40

Underarms took ages for me.
But it did work.
Bikini line didn't take as long but longer than lower legs.

And I wasn't as diligent doing regular treatments as per instructions.
I used to have one of the first IPL machines (Boots own model) and that was great for legs. Lumea made a real difference to underarms and bikini line.
If you persevere, you'll get there in a couple of months.
Also I read somewhere (not sure if true) that it is not as effective if using antiperspirants such as Mitchum, the type that you apply in the evening and keeps the swear at bay for a couple of days.

Sorry to resurrect this old thread, but I wondered if you got there in the end? I'm 4 treatments in and have maybe seen a bit of a difference, but nothing dramatic. Like you, I have pale skin and reasonably dark hair, and I've been following instructions to the letter.
