I'm going to the big Boots today -- and I have vouchers!

For new foundation mainly - but I have £100 in vouchers to use! What would you buy?

I used to use No7 foundation but found it doesn't last. I bought a cheap L'Oréal one and it's not my colour - I need a counter lady to help!

Do I shop by brand for my 45 year old skin or my the make up lady who looks the least terrifying?

At a push there's also a huge John Lewis but Boots has all these counters apparently 😳

That’s a lot of choice, but I think narrowing down what you want in a foundation and how much you want to spend on one first, along with if you can re purchase something expensive once this one runs out?

i would go with clarins, Estée Lauder or Chanel maybe ysl. I have a lovely it cosmetics cc foundation I love too. Not a fan of benefit foundations, but narrowing down what you actually want first might help with the massive choice or it will just be overwhelming. Sounds fun and enjoy treating yourself

Pileofjeans · 05/03/2023 09:10

I've been wearing Estée Lauder double wear foundation for years and really rate it. Go see the counter there although I find Boots can be a bit hit and miss on whether they actually have someone on the counter!!!

If I was overhauling my make up bag for £100 I'd buy that foundation, MaxFactor waterproof false lash mascara in black (I haven't found better!), a brow product (maybe Benefit as there's no Charlotte Tilbury) and blusher as that's your basics covered.

And a Real Techniques brush for your foundation.

Workyticket · 05/03/2023 09:20

Thank you!

My main want is that it matches my skin colour perfectly so I can throw it on in the car in the morning (dh drives we work in the same city!) and for it to last all day.

I'd like it not to sit in my lines or look cakey though and nothing super thick as I'm no expert applier 😀

I've no idea how much foundation is really as I've just picked up a No7 in Boots previously and not looked - but it's not an issue if it's perfect. I don't mind paying a lot for minimum effort from me!

Something I can buy online once I know I like it would be a bonus too

I have Real Techniques brushes already 💖

Most of those brands will be on self service racks rather than counters - though the big ones like No.7, Clarins should have makeup counters with people.

As pp I would narrow it down. Research good mascaras and foundations and have a list of 3 or 4.

Just to throw a spanner in I'm late 40s and don't wear foundation - I wear cc or bb cream as i find that's all I need coverage wise- and use Erborian ( which boots does sell know I think but it's not on your list).

Headlandblur · 05/03/2023 09:24

Price wise erborian is ~£40. I would expect to pay £35-45 for YSL et al foundation.

Workyticket · 05/03/2023 09:25

It'll definitely narrow it down if the counters are self service as I definitely need help with colour matching

Maybe the big John Lewis would be better 🤔

For 'throw it on' maybe a tinted moisturizer (Nars is the best) but to apply double wear with a brush probably takes two minutes. I need it though as have very uneven and ruddy skin.

QuillBill · 05/03/2023 09:28

I went to a big Boots on a Sunday recently and it was packed with assistants. I think you will be fine. Remember to go near a window or outside to look at it as well. Maybe take a tiny mirror.

Workyticket · 05/03/2023 09:36

I have about 40 minutes in the car on a morning 😀

I've no idea why i find make up ladies so bloody intimidating!

Boot No 7 mascara is brilliant

Workyticket · 05/03/2023 10:01

Mascara is the one decent thing I have - and it is a No7! 😀

I have a No7 blusher I'm happy with too actually. I did use their foundation for ages but recently found it a bit rubbish- not sure whether they maybe changed the formula

Or maybe it's my ageing skin... probably more likely

Don’t spend it today!
Go to the big counters and ask to be colour matched and for a sample. Then try them yourself over the course of a couple of days before committing.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 05/03/2023 10:06

Don’t buy Double Wear if you don’t like too matte. Futurist is lovely though - I’m so impressed with it that I think I’ve mentioned it half a dozen times on here in the past couple of weeks!

I’ve also bought a couple of Chanel lipsticks in the last six months or so- my first properly ‘posh’ lipsticks. They’re gorgeous- feel like such a treat to use.

I wish I could - I have a funeral this week and a birthday night out at the weekend that I'd like to look put together for so I need to buy today really 😩

Chanel counter.

Enjoy!!!

breatheinskipthegym · 05/03/2023 11:59

I love Dior foundation, it’s my favourite ever. Never cakey, even though my skin is bumpy and uneven and dry. The Dior staff have never given me an overly made-up look, which is how I like it.

Workyticket · 05/03/2023 15:27

So.. I've been! Spent a bomb on Dior foundation and blusher (didn't need to blusher - but I did get a 'free' gift for buying 2 things 🤣

Not opened the gift and I'm off out to eat but I'm very excited about it! I loved all the pomp of getting the special bag with a ribbon... I'm such an easy sale!

OP posts:
Workyticket · 05/03/2023 15:30

Oh and I also got a lippy from Clinique (and face wash, moisturiser etc from Boots as they were in the sale)

I feel like I've had a huge treat and the lady did my face so dh is taking us out for food so as not to waste it!

Bless him - he was so happy to see me chuffed with my spends.

AND I got Boots points even though most of what I spent was on a voucher

I'm a 45 year old princess today!

I'd love to know what you think of the foundation and whether it's worth the money.

Oh wow! Stunning
