Messenger bags that last forever

I'm currently looking for a new messenger bag (style wise I like the look of Sandqvist and Rains bags, but they've discontinued the Sandqvist messenger I liked and have had issues with my Rains bag peeling so not keen on getting another)

My criteria:

1. Water-resistant
2. Long lasting (I'd like it to last at least 5 years with frequent use)
3. Not too dressy (mainly using it for dog walking, walks, trips to the countryside or seaside)
4. 8-15L

The only things I need it to fit are my water bottle (500ml), a mini foldable umbrella, and sometimes a light foldable rain jacket. Thanks!

Oh and ideally I'd like it to be machine washable but admit that that might be a bit unrealistic!

Depends if you care about form over function. I have a number of Kipling bags, including messenger style and they are pretty much indestructible. I take off the furry thing as I think it looks weird. I have stuck them in the washing machine on delicates occasionally and they are fine and come out like new. The great thing is you can find just about any size, colour, pattern, style you want. But I realise they might not be very stylish.

I quite fancy a truck tarpaulin bag next. Bit marmite though.
