Orlando: what to wear?!

2 week holiday to Orlando in summer coming up. I don't have a very expansive summer wardrobe and not looking to spend a fortune, what would you wear for a busy theme park holiday that is comfortable but look good in the photos?!

I should add I burn terribly so want to keep shoulders covered so sun cream application isn't too arduous!

It will be humid AF in the summer and tbh, Americans - Floridians rather, on the whole will be super casual, in the parks and restaurants. I’d honestly go for shorts and t shirts in the parks if you are comfortable in shorts, if not maybe capris (are they even called that any more? 7/8 light weight trousers. And for dinner casual dresses - all flats and trainers.

on another note - if you get the chance and it’s not too far check out a cruise on the banana river to see the manatees (eco tours I think they are called?) and defo do Kennedy space centre- was so much more impressive than expected 😬

Mumof1andacat · 02/03/2023 21:58

I was in florida last year. It was HOT. You need to be comfortable and cool. Linen or cotton trousers, normal tops with short sleeves will be fine. Not winning style awards but sketchers sandals are so comfortable for walking around the parks. Factor 50 sun screen is a must and I recommend a cool towel to take.

TheOnlyAletheia · 02/03/2023 21:58

I’ve done the parks 6/7 times now and my staples are t shirt mini dresses (forgiving in photos and allow air to circulate) and I swear by these yoga slings

YouBetYourBippy · 02/03/2023 22:00

It rained (and I mean, REALLY rained) for the 5 days we were in the parks last August so my main recommendation is for something waterproof!

GulfCoastBeachGirl · 02/03/2023 22:15

Not a style statement but definitely wear something on your head, baseball cap, straw hat, etc. The sun is really strong, you need that extra protection. And unless you're one of the lucky few who has the kind of hair that looks Fab in 100% humidity, a hat saves you from fussing with some kind of hairstyle.

Linen/gauze sundresses are as dressy as you'll need to get even in a nicer restaurant.

Have fun!

BeyondMyWits · 02/03/2023 22:16

I am sensitive to the sun, so tend to wear linen cut off trousers, like wide leg capri pants, with a t shirt and an oversized white linen shirt on top. And a wide brimmed hat, and remember to put suncream on top of your feet! And dark sunglasses. The sky is sooooo bright out there.

Have fun, so envious!

IntentionalError · 02/03/2023 22:31

Florida in summer is unbelievably hot & humid. Walking out of air conditioned buildings is like walking into a steam room fully clothed. Dress for comfort in these temperatures, so shorts or a short skirt & t-shirt or a vest top & a hat is a good place to start.

kljk78 · 02/03/2023 22:37

I should say it's May so end of spring really so not quite as hot as height of summer.

I have some black linen cut off trousers (that I love, most comfortable trousers in the world!) very airy but would black be out of place and too absorbing?

(And thank you, have added these all to my spreadsheet!)

Shorts, shorts and more shorts. Comfortable t-shirts and shoes, sunglasses and a sun hat of some kind .
A swimsuit and a wrap, plus a light dress if you wear them. You can buy anything else you might need when you're there.
(I bought a ridiculously cheap but effective hairdryer as the hotel ones were crap. Unless you already own a dual voltage travel hairdryer. ) Toiletries are cheap too.

mdinbc · 02/03/2023 23:02

I actually prefer skirts or cropped trousers for city type visits, mostly because I hate my bare legs sticking to transit or restaurant seats. Ditto for rides. Cropped linen trousers sound ideal. Nice light loose t-shirts, or other tops that cover shoulders. Or longer biker shorts with long t-shirt.

If you wear a hat, you may lose it on rides, so take a smaller baseball type one you can tuck into a bag.

Aphrathestorm · 02/03/2023 23:08

Shoes you can walk 10 miles a day in.

For the water rides clothes that don't show your underwear when wet and dry quickly.

peanutbuttertoasty · 02/03/2023 23:14

The comfiest shoes you can possibly find.. x2
Cover ups to avoid sunburn
A bumbag 😆

We were there in may. 1st wk was abnormally hot but the second was cooler. I wore black linen trousers and navy ones with no issue. Bare in mind the thighs rubbing if you are in shorts or skirts and walking a lot. Liquid talc from asda is supposed to help.

SenecaFallsRedux · 02/03/2023 23:24

A bumbag

Or fanny pack as they are known here in the States. 😀

I live in Florida, OP, and I often wear black or navy in the spring and even in high summer, and so do lots of other Floridians. The fabric is the main thing: cotton or linen is your friend.

One thing though is that you will need some kind of light wrap for indoors. Some restaurants will be frigid and it will feel even colder coming in from a day outside. I have a linen/silk blend one that I use in the summer.

That's funny Seneca - I just came back to post about bringing a light wrap.

I'm here on the Gulf coast and am amazed at how cold it can be in some restaurants!

declutteringmymind · 03/03/2023 00:36

I wore linen shirts over vest tops with shorts. You can take the shirt off
In sheltered queues

Also hat and sunglasses. V. Comfy shoes

Just Google
Orlando family
Pics and see what people are wearing.

Heathcote294 · 03/03/2023 07:48

I wore playsuits, shorts and t shirts, loose dresses (with chub rub shorts underneath) and lightweight trainers. All very comfortable.

Also a rash vest for the waterparks.

BeyondMyWits · 03/03/2023 20:43

Black cut off linen would be fine... but if they are your absolute favourites, be aware they may fade in the sun. My go to navy ones did on the top of the thigh and knee, ruined... I was so disappointed.

BuntyCollocks · 03/03/2023 20:54

We’re back in Florida this year, too, and my go to is dresses, usually a midi length. I hate the idea of shorts or jumpsuits where they go on a public toilet floor if you position them wrong 😂

Isabelle70 · 04/03/2023 07:00

I am going in May too and will be taking the linen shorts I have with some hopefully nicer looking t-shirts/tops.
I have torn ligaments in one ankle and suffer with my Achilles so have bought some Skechers sandals with arch support for all the walking. I would really struggle with flat shoes.

Bluelightbaby · 04/03/2023 08:17

Very comfy trainers (sketchers memory foam type)
if your budgets small head to primark :
shorts (avoid skirts/dresses due to sweat/chaffing)
t shirts
lightweight cardi as lots of indoor places will have very cold air con
bum bag was brilliant - I got a Kipling multiway, that way could have cross body or bum bag
