Beauty Pie removing £5 membership rate

Just got an email about this - it's so annoying! I've been a member for about five years and used the site quite often in the beginning, less so since the pandemic and working at home. I've accumulated about 3k in spending limit! Now they say they're going to remove the spending limit for everyone and in a tiny line at the bottom of the email say they're also moving everyone on the £5 to the £10 monthly fee. Argh! I don't need an unlimited credit amount as I never used mine up anyway. I suppose I'm unprofitable for them is the bottom line. I think I'm going to cancel - I like some of the products but can't justify doubling the membership rate per month to access them. Anyone else in the same boat?

In the beginning it was really good value. There were some great products and although the RRPs were always inflated, the member prices were pretty good. Now the prices have skyrocketed and the quality just doesn’t warrant the higher prices

PersonaNonGarter · 03/03/2023 23:35

Beauty Pie is such a scam.

The main thing is that the products just are not very good. Save your money and buy stuff from anywhere. And if you really want BP stuff get it from Facebook or EBay.

I’m going to cancel too. Have been meaning to anyway. Will stock up on Japanfusion cleanser. Have quite an allowance built up unfortunately. Feels like a waste. But pissed off at their strategy.

Peridot1 · 04/03/2023 06:12

I’ve just logged into my account and I can’t see where my spending limit is now. Just “savings” to date.

Greencrocs · 04/03/2023 07:44

Has anyone heard back about their cancellation request?
I appreciate they are probably inundated but I don’t want to be charged the double fee so getting concerned that they haven’t responded

Sammysquiz · 04/03/2023 08:05

I’m really cross about it too, also because their email said “good news about your account!” and then said the price is going up by 50%!

The later apology email explains that the £5 per month option hasn’t been available to new customers since 2021. But this means they’re screwing over their oldest most loyal customers.

I’ve loved the majority of the products I’ve bought from Beauty Pie but I’ll be cancelling my membership over this.

I cancelled last night, they got back to me very quickly. They offered me an annual subscription at £49 (£10 off) which I declined. They then processed the cancellation request

KiwiMum2023 · 04/03/2023 08:15

I was a member from day one and incredibly loyal but I let my membership lapse about a year ago. I still like some of the products - though some are awful - but the prices jumped so much I found it galling. Fully aware that prices have gone up across the board but this was ridiculous.

dontgobaconmyheart · 04/03/2023 08:47

I get instagram ads near constantly with free membership offers or just 50% off everything & various freebies (face cream, a lipstick) with an order without signing up so I'm not sure why they'd expect anyone to pay.

I've been half tempted a few times (as a one off purchase with the above offers, I'd have absolutely no interest in a mo they payment) but nothing looks like anything you'd not be able to get elsewhere and the prices (to me) aren't amazing either.

Perhaps they are not doing well.

I subscribed to a bunch of beauty boxes recently and I would see Beauty Pie recommendations in articles about subscriptions, so I checked it out. I thought it looked like a dumb idea. Of course their regular prices are absurdly inflated. It looked like you just pay for the privilege of shopping there. I guess it is a bit like Costco, but Costco is unlike any other store.

There may be some very good products by BP, but in such a huge and competitive market I doubt I'm missing anything essential.

Karmatime · 04/03/2023 22:48

I was a member for a few years. I went onto the annual membership and cancelled when it was up for renewal last September. A combination of huge prices hikes and lots of stuff out of stock for ages made it hard to justify spending £59 even though I actually loved a lot of their products.

Wheredothesocksgo · 05/03/2023 12:27

I cancelled a while ago and lost the thousands of credits I had on my account.

It started out great, pay £5-10 a month to access cheaper priced high end cosmetics but their prices are no longer competitive enough to justify the membership. Their marketing practices seem underhand and the whole model isn't what it promised to be.

AbsolutePixels · 05/03/2023 13:43

I cancelled my membership a long time ago. The products are quite nice, but the whole process is so fiddly, I'd rather just buy stuff the normal way.

Yes, I agree. Beauty Pie came out at a time when there weren't many high quality budget offerings, but there's so much more out there nowadays. What with the price increases and all the faff, Beauty Pie just isn't worth it anymore.

StillSmallVoice · 05/03/2023 14:46

I am pleased to have found this thread. I find beauty pie emails really irritating and never open them. I have also thought they were no longer value for money. Have now cancelled.

Thanks everyone.
