M&S jaeger dress: dry clean only! Can I wash?!

Guidance appreciated!! I bought this m&s jaeger dress as a treat (I love it!) after a promotion but now I see it’s dry bl00dy clean only… it’s polyester so I think it should be okay if I hand wash cool - has anyone else tried?!!! www.marksandspencer.com/crepe-v-neck-knee-length-shift-dress/p/clp60586491

I wouldn’t.
I once ruined a gorgeous Mac and a lovely pair of trousers by deciding that they’d probably be okay to wash cool on a wool cycle.
The mac bubbled somehow. Weird as it’s designed to be worn in the rain, and had been with no issues with it getting wet.
I can’t remember what happened to the trousers but I know they were unwearable and they had been a perfect fit before washing.

Okay thanks a mil!
So annoyed - I never would have bought if I’d known it was dry clean as I’m wearing to work on a regular basis. I wouldn’t mind dry cleaning for an occasion dress but not an everyday dress. Raging with myself!!!!

This stuff if you have a drier?

Woolite Dry Care Cleaner, At Home Dry Clean in 20 Minutes Everyday, Special Care, and Dry Clean Clothes, Fragrance Free, 6 Cloths amzn.eu/d/f0J1Wpp

I suppose if you'll end up never wearing it becuase it's dry clean, you've nothing to lose by trying?

I'd wash it, understanding that it was a risk I was prepared to take for something that woukd otherwise got to waste anyway. It should surely be OK if it's polyester?

Not willing to give up on a dress that expensive so soon! Lesson learned; never expected that from m&s…
agree re polyester - doesn’t make sense!

It should be bomb proof if it’s polyester! I’d certainly risk it on a delicate wash and line dry.

Fwiw, it's not an M&S dress it's a Jaeger dress sold by M&S online.

It seems to be the more expensive polyester is the less washable it becomes. I suspect it's just back covering.

RedRosie · 28/02/2023 19:44

Nice!

I'd wash it. Use a washbag (or pillow case and elastic band). Wash at 30 on the delicate cycle. Hang up to dry.

It will be totally fine. And if it isn't, that's evolution in action innit?

😁

SpacePotato · 28/02/2023 19:45

I would.
Either hand wash in the sink and drip dry folded over the washing line or on a short gentle machine wash.

Certainly wouldn't ever tumble it though.

Hard to know without seeing/feeling it though.

I bought in m&s store - they own jaeger now

thanks all. Will try a spot wash and hang dry and see how it goes. Really love but dry cleaning will never happen realistically.
