London - jeans for shorties!

I really want some new jeans, ideally flared or at least bootleg but I'm such a short arse (5ft) it's so difficult finding the right length. I'll be in London tomorrow, around Liverpool Street but can go further afield... any suggestions where I could go to actually try some on?

Will you have time to walk up to Spitalfields? There's a fair few of the high st chains there (Uniqlo, Urban Outfitters and so on) but also the market and lots of vintage shops, especially if you walk through to the upper bit of Brick Lane Smile

NotAnotherTaco · 28/02/2023 15:48

I'll have time yes... but am I likely to find much petite/short fit selection in the vintage shops do you think?
Just had a look at Urban Outfitters & Uniqlo but both are way too long sadly!

New look petite range - they do 28 inch leg.

MaggieMagpie357 · 28/02/2023 15:55

I'm 5'2 and get my jeans from New Look, M&S, Next and Primark. They all do petite length.

Alarae · 28/02/2023 16:01

Another vote here for M&S- they do a short length for their jeans. I have also seen an 'extra short' length while browsing Vinted so not sure if that's still a thing! They have a store checker on their website/app so you can always have a look to see if they will have what you are after before making a trip.

blueshoes · 28/02/2023 16:08

Probably not very helpful but I get the length of my jeans altered by a tailor. That way, you have a much wider range to choose from. You tend to wear jeans so much you will tend to get the per wear cost right down.

NotAnotherTaco · 28/02/2023 16:31

Are there decent size M&S / Next stores around Liverpool Street that might have plenty of sizes in store to try on?

And yes, I know I can search online, and choose filters etc, but I find my size changes all the time, dep on shop, style etc, so I really need to be able to try on otherwise I just end up ordering millions of pairs online!

@blueshoes I've used tailors a lot in the past to alter things, but recently moved to a new area so I need to hunt down a decent one! Agree on the cost though - it takes an averagely-priced item and turns it quite pricey!

There is a big M&S at Moorgate maybe ten minutes walk away, and a smaller one on Fenchurch Street which is slightly less than that. I have no idea about Next though.

These are super flattering , they come in bootcut or flared and in short leg

TheOGCCL · 28/02/2023 17:44

M&S Moorgate is a quite a big shop so might have a few options but personally I find stock in shops these days, even the big ones, quite lacking and random. I tend to order in advance of my visit on my credit card then return what I don't want on the spot. (Well I'm on no spend at the moment but when I am in the market).

Uniqlo always used to offer a trouser/jeans shortening service for things over £20 so they may still do that. The shop at Spitalfields is not overly big. The city is not a great place for shopping generally - it never really was and now its a bit of a ghost town; if you have time you could try jumping on the Central or Liz Line to Westfield Stratford where they have a flagship M&S, then Next and John Lewis and other shops of course.

I tend to look for jeans labelled cropped as then they are about right on me.

TheOGCCL · 28/02/2023 17:45

PS you can check stock in M&S branches online, which I find is reasonably though not totally accurate.

musicmum75 · 28/02/2023 17:50

I am petite and always order online. No shops ever have shorter lengths in stock. Maybe you might just get lucky on Oxford St or in Westfield but I don't fancy your chances near Liverpool St.

Niftythrifter · 28/02/2023 18:00

I’m shorter than you and Primark slim straight ( unfinished hem).Boden jeans in a petite length too are good.

RunnerDown · 28/02/2023 18:31

Levi do some jeans in a 28 inch length if you don’t mind paying a bit more. Mint velvet also do a short version of all their jeans ( mainly online but might find some in their stores) . I’m 5 ft 4 ( and a short arse ) and mint velvet short length can even be too short for me

NotAnotherTaco · 28/02/2023 19:57

Thanks for all the suggestions. Westfield is a great shout, might try and get there and see what they have.

I'm average height, I think, but short in the leg. I go to River Island for jeans. Next also does short length.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 28/02/2023 23:12

Levi’s stores do free alterations if that’s useful for the area you’re shopping in.

Fizbosshoes · 28/02/2023 23:27

I'm a shortie and my current faves (although a few years old) are cropped jeans for average size . I've also bought gap ankle length before

VooVooV · 28/02/2023 23:32

@NotAnotherTaco M&S do petite (which I get) and fits me just right and I’m 5’2. I actually got a great pair of bootcut ones recently.
These
(Actually more bootcut in real life)
But they do an extra short length too, which might be good for you.
