Swimwear for size 14-16

Am wondering whether it's time to ditch the bikini at age 50+ and a size 14-16. Going on holiday with a group of ladies later this year and am conscious of some being slimmer than me. Don't want to look ridiculous. Have been comfortable-ish wearing bikinis while away with DH and adopted a bit of a 'don't give a shit' attitude on the basis that there's always someone bigger than you.

So, what to wear and where to buy it? Have traditionally been a Next/M&S shopper for beachwear but not feeling inspired by them this year.

I think you have exactly the right attitude. I used to be terrified of wearing a bikini in public but when I finally did it was almost an anticlimax. Nobody paid any attention to me whatsoever and I wondered why it had taken me years to do so.

I feel more comfortable in high waisted bikinis. For Luna and Bettylicious are good for retro style swimwear which I find really flattering.

I like a tankini myself. But then, I'm a traditional apple and all my weight is on my belly! If you still have curves and are in proportion, wear a bikini if you want to. You can always adapt the style - fuller coverage eg with a high waist or similar.

I have an X-back one-piece from Deakin and Blue that I love and can highly recommend.

That being said you will not look ridiculous, there is no particular age to ditch a bikini! Wear whatever you feel comfortable wearing, I never notice what other people wear, so I figure they won't notice what I wear!

Thanks for the replies so far, yes I definitely prefer a bigger bikini bottom to cover up the belly!

I've got a lovely pour moi one piece that I got in their sale. It's red and has control panels without squeezing you to death and is very flattering. I'd definitely buy more of there items.

I needed new swim wear for a holiday next month. M&S is usually my go to place. But I went in last week and surprised they had very little in stock. The assistant said they'd be getting more in soon but that wasn't any good to me. M&S are missing a trick there. Swimwear is in demand all year around not just Spring/Summer.
In stark contrast Primark have a good selection but shame none suited me. I'm normally a big bottoms
, tankini fan.
But Next came to my rescue. I got a one piece, black swimsuit in there. Flattering & it's a perfect fit.

Look at Jets By Jessika Allen on the outnet.

Check out the Bella Rossa catalogue, she has a nice selection. You can then buy direct from the shops or from her.
