Wed2b bridesmaid dress alterations?

Silentshout · 26/02/2023 14:00

I’m a bridesmaid for my SIL in April. I really like my bridesmaid dress (see link) and the fact she just let us all choose from
the 6 available styles which suits us best.

it’s needing taken up, the straps need adjusting but I’m also keen to have the under skirt taken in at the sides. As I say it’s a lovely dress but there seems to be masses of underskirt fabric under the chiffon and it makes me look so much bigger than my size 10 frame. I just like snug fitting clothes and just feel so much comfier in general

Questions would be has anyone worn this dress? How did it feel on the day and did you have it taken in? Would it be rude to have it taken in a bit?

It looks like you might spoil the flow if you take it in - but a professional dressmaker or tailor would be able to tell you. I do think it would be annoying if Bride gave you a selection which she'd chosen for you to choose from the range - and if you altered it significantly. But ask her.

Yeah you are right, it would be annoying. I think I just need to suck it up and just enjoy the day. I have a 4 year old and two year olds twins and all though I’m back to my ideal weight I have lots of loose skin from the twin pregnancy. I get so self conscious over all the little lumps and bumps when I should really just embrace it the fact that my body’s been in a journey

Love that dress ! I would tread carefully around altering a bridesmaid dress especially if the bride is paying - my SIL got her dress altered beyond recognition for my wedding and her alterations cost me £££ on top of an already expensive dress. We had a huge falling out over it and 5 years later it still annoys me and it’s definitely effected our relationship.

Agree with the PP that the skirt makes the dress, I’m sure you will look amazing 😊
