Workwear - what goes over wide/voluminous tops (cardigan/jacket)?

Help! I often wear oversized tops, think kimono / wide /dolman / wide sleeves (mostly cos I sweat through anything that approaches my armpits, but that's another story 🙄).

I need advice on what I can wear over those sorts of tops in terms of a cardie or jacket for work? I've got a jersey jacket for example but it's narrow sleeved so there's odd bunching. And sometimes I sweat through the lot!

I'd love something unusual or asymmetrical but still needs to be ok for office wear (not creative industry office but relaxed).

This is the sort of wide top I (have to) favour:

Thanks!

This All Saints kimono jacket looks amazing but (a) would baggy top over baggy top = me looking like a weeble? and (b) it's £150!

If it's for warmth op I'd go for a Uniqlo heat teach top underneath rather than wear something over the top. If you must wear a cardy then I'd go for a slouchy oversized one from Whistles or something. I would never wear a jacket. OR how do you feel about a tank?! www.johnlewis.com/whistles-bailey-sleeveless-cardigan-black/p6350502

Thanks @Particularprick I do have a couple of short sleeve jumpers, bit too paranoid about sweaty pits for a tank. Going warm under is a good idea but I need something I can take off in a variable warmth office. Maybe I just need a warm coat that won't bunch stuff under my arms on the commute and ditch the idea of a "smart" jacket on top of wide blouse while inside. Hmm.

I think what I want is a kimono sleeved blazer. So not a floaty top on top but something more structured to contrast with the floater volume under.

Maybe I just need to buy up a size in a "relaxed" blazer? Not sure how that would look. www.marksandspencer.com/relaxed-ruched-sleeve-blazer/p/clp60578216?color=BLACK

I think that M&S relaxed oversized blazer is exactly what you need. It's also a real 'look' in its own right - just search French Style on Pinterest and it's all loafers, straight jeans, and oversized blazers.

mango did some nice kimono jackets last year I have a check one and demin one and plain black, also places like brandalley have similar

NightOwlNotEarlyBird · 22/02/2023 10:38

What about a cape blazer? This sort of thing.

Nitgel · 22/02/2023 10:41

i have www.brandalley.co.uk/17457871.html this rodier one but it gets very creasy

museumum · 22/02/2023 10:50

I don't think a 'smart' jacket works with an oversized top. I would wear a vest underneath (strappy so leaving armpits clear) and then have either a poncho or big wide scarf/shawl for any cold moments at my desk.

othgraph · 22/02/2023 10:54

I have this from Wyse and it works over my puffy and wide sleeved clothing. Jacket
I went for something that wasn't too structured but still had an interesting shape.

PenguinFlipper · 22/02/2023 11:50

@NightOwlNotEarlyBird hmm yeah maybe. The model's arms look a bit odd poking through to me, and my arms aren't as nice!

Thanks @othgraph , I'm 14-16 on top though so I'm a bit worried I'd look like a box :). Not that I case especially as long as it was a vaguely stylish box!

@Nitgel hmm maybe thin linen is a bit pyjama-y for the office? Denim kimono jacket is a good shout, an open front one, no wrapover cos of bulk.

This jacket on esty looks ace shapewise but don't like the zip at the back and wool is too heavy.

Or a cheaper Etsy one but all one size so might be massive.

What about something like www.uniqlo.com/eu/en_BE/product/3d-knit-seamless-soufflé-cardigan-451686.html this from Uniqlo? It's loose under the arms and at the top of the arms.

PenguinFlipper · 22/02/2023 12:03

And now I've fallen down an Etsy rabbit hole!

This batwing jacket looks lovely but it's £130.

Oooh @BlackAmericanoNoSugar thanks, that Uniqlo knit looks ace!
