I'm trying to find a prom dress for my daughter without paying £4-500 for a dress she will wear once. I'm a little concerned about ordering online so ideally I'd like to find somewhere local.

Does anyone have suggestions of somewhere near Greater Manchester?

Not too far from Manchester, Cheshire Oaks outlet village -designer shop options rather than a Wedding /prom dress shop but possibility of finding something special at a good price.

The dress agency, Culcheth.

TK Maxx in several towns and they often have suitable dresses for a prom - I have worked in secondary schools and seen some lovely ones girls got from there and never two in the same one which can happen!

Tk max or if you don’t mind second hand go to a charity shop in a nice area away from the school so people don’t see the dress in the window

Could you go for a rummage in the charity shops in Uppermill, or some other high end suburb? (I'm not sure that Uppermill is actually Greater Manchester, but should be accessible).

We didn’t go to a prom dress shop we bought online from Coast and the dress was beautiful and not that expensive either.

Thank you for the suggestions

We have ordered dresses to try on from jjs house online. For £20 you can choose three dresses which get posted out to you and have to be returned within 7 days. When those three have been returned you can order more if you want. We were very happy with the quality and ended up ordering a beautiful dress for £135. Still a lot for a school disco!

Quiz, but charity shops are your best bet, I volunteer in one and we have multiple evening dresses in, in sizes 8-18 currently, unfortunately not near you
