Sea Salt Janelle?

MadameSapphire · 18/02/2023 15:52

I have a Sea Salt High Water coat - wore it today and it’s definitely waterproof but not warm enough for the cold! Is the Janelle warm? (I have a down coat which is great for the very cold weather but not waterproof!). TIA.

The Janelle is lovely and warm, yes. Love mine.

MadameSapphire · 18/02/2023 16:16

Thanks @ChessieFL! 😊

I love my Janelle coat. Bought it for dog walking but pretty much wear it as my go to coat all winter! Very warm, wind and water proof and not bulky. I was worried when it arrived as it seemed so light but it’s perfect.

Yes, I've been out all day in -3/4 and been fine in my Janelle. They are surprisingly warm for their weight. They are also indestructible!

Squamata · 18/02/2023 16:28

It's been my winter coat for about three years, plenty warm enough with a few woolies added on the coldest days. Massive pockets, which I like but does tend to make you a bit bulky looking if you fill them!

TheSingingBean · 18/02/2023 16:29

I find mine very warm.

I know a lot of posters think Janelle is as ugly as fuck but I don't care, it's a great buy. And a young person (late teens) said to me this week 'Ooh, I like your coat.' I nearly fell over!

BreakfastOfWaffles · 18/02/2023 16:32

I love my Janelle. As a PP said, it is a lot warmer than its weight might imply, especially with the hood up.

KangarooKenny · 18/02/2023 16:47

Is it sweaty as it’s waterproof ?

ReadersD1gest · 18/02/2023 16:58

I love mine. How can a raincoat be "ugly as fuck" @TheSingingBean ??
What can anyone expect from a raincoat?!

No not at all. In fact I do use it in the summer months for rainy days with just a t shirt on underneath and it’s perfect

SnarkyBag · 18/02/2023 17:00

The Janelle is only ugly if you don’t size down! I’m a size 10-12 but have the Janelle in an 8.

BuddhaAtSea · 18/02/2023 17:06

I have one, it’s nice and warm when you do it up all the way and put the hood up, but the pockets aren’t big at all @Squamata , are we talking the same coat?
I bought mine in a size up and nipped it in at the waist with those poppers, it gives it more of a shape.

Flockameanie · 18/02/2023 17:08

Just a warning that my Janelle stopped being waterproof after a few years, despite re-proofing it with Nik Wax. It leaked at the shoulders and pockets...

TheSingingBean · 18/02/2023 17:28

Good question Readers!

I didn’t buy mine as a fashion statement but I have noticed that when the Janelle coat is discussed on Style and Beauty it often gets a lot of criticism for its looks.

However, enough good reviews to convince me to buy one just over a year ago and I haven’t regretted it 🙂

ZoChan · 18/02/2023 17:32

I do love mine but dislike the hood- it ties up to be closer around your face in the wind, but even though I bought a size up, the hood feels really small. I prefer the large joules fisherman style hood. But I love the Janelle otherwise

Just looked some colours are in the sale 😃

Lentilweaver · 18/02/2023 18:04

I am a recent convert, and just got back from a very windy and drizzly walk in mine. I find it warm enough for London with only a tshirt underneath. Also, I don't find it as ugly as people say, but it may be a bit unflattering if you are short. I find the hood a bit small, but that may be because I have a massive head.

I bought the Thicket colour in the sale at half price, and think it's worth every penny.

User18936572 · 18/02/2023 19:28

There are a few on Next clearance pages in the sale, you will probably get one cheaper this time of the year. I have two, a navy one and an orange one, I wear them loads in the winter, they are warm.

SadCelticBunny · 18/02/2023 22:42

I bought my wife this
Seasalt Planthunter, a bit lighter than Janelle.
Its gorgeous and just right as she runs hotter than most

MissHavershamReturns · 18/02/2023 22:51

Made me look awful. I don’t mind a warm non stylish coat but I looked dreadful in mine so I had to get shot. Love sea salt but not that coat.

TokyoSushi · 18/02/2023 22:59

I have one, I don't think it's 'that' warm 😳

I usually wear it until the end of October and then will get it out again in the next couple of weeks, it is super waterproof though!

Turmerictolly · 18/02/2023 23:56

I really like mine but it did soak through, particularly around the sleeves, in a heavy drizzle although I was out in it for 6 hours straight. Arms got damp again tonight in rain. Hoping the waterproof layer hasn't failed already as I've only had it 3 months. Otherwise, roomy, zip up pockets and can be nipped in at the waist. Would have liked slightly more padded, longer sleeves that could be velcroed/popped tighter around the wrist to keep the rain out.

Rahrahrahraah · 18/02/2023 23:59

I'm going to disagree with pps and say it's not that warm (maybe because my previous coat was a north face down jacket). Personally I prefer it that way though.. I'm in London so it rarely gets that cold and I'm always on and off public transport. I would recommend buying in a big enough size to wear a thick jumper if necessary.

I would send that back as faulty. I’ve been wearing mine 4 the years and have been out in torrential down pours and it’s never soaked through

Try it and see! 😂

I prefer the Plant Hunter coat.
