Ear lobe piercings just not healing after months

Can anyone help? I had my second and third holes done back at the beginning of November. They're still not fully healed. It's driving me mad ! The second ones are not too bad at all, but the 3rd ones are still inflamed at the piercing site, they crust and bleed and are sore ! I've switched to sterling silver earrings, studs and fine sleepers and they're still sore. One side will get better than the other side starts !

I've used saline spray solution, rock salt in warm water and more recently tea tree oil, nothing seems to help. I'm tempted to get the tcp out at this point!

Is it because all four holes were pierced at once ??

Titanium and gold (real not plated) are best metals for new piercings. When sleeping use a plane travel pillow so your ears are not squashed. Keep at it with the salt solutions. Unfortunately for some it does take time to heal.

Sometimes your body can just reject a piercing!

I had my thirds and one fourth done last year, the fourth just never healed 12 months on. I took the earring out and it was pretty much fully healed over in a few days - my ear just clearly didn't want that piercing! I tried everything with cleaning / solid metal earrings etc, it just didn't want to be healed.

I got the fourth done in the opposite ear a month ago and that's already healed. Just must have been my ear not liking in on the other side 😊

Switch back to the earrings they were pierced with or titanium and gold. Silver is more likely to cause a reaction. All of my piercings took considerably longer to heal than the usual 4-6 weeks advised. I also have silver and tin allergies, so all cheap earrings are no-go. Doing both at once probably hasn't helped with the inflammation.

Sudocrem works wonders for mine: if you can take them out, dip in it and pop back in, that should help a lot.

I can't put the bars back in they were pierced with, i did try but they're to thick for the holes now ! I've got some silver sleepers in.
The second ones get a little sore but the third ones are a nightmare, left side is worse aswell. I've used sudocrem and did use tcp but can't say it's made a difference !

I've had my lip, nose, belly, cartilage pierced on both ears but these lobes are the worst of the lot !!!

My thirds were also done in November. I thought they were well healed and swapped to some silver then gold earrings. What a mistake, within 2 days they were so swollen I couldn’t keep an earring in. I had to use oil to lubricate it and tap through my original titanium earrings through. Within a day they were back to normal.

BPA Piercing Aftercare 1 x 10ml Bottle from The Aftercare Company - Dermatology Tested - Vegan Friendly - Cruelty Free - Unique Formula amzn.eu/d/aZkRo1q

This really helped me

Go to a registered professional piercer and ask for advice. Holier Than Thou in Manchester are amazing if you can get there. They will recommend jewellery and aftercare advice. And stop with tea tree and salt water! They just make it worse. Get a canister of Neilmed sterile saline spray which is much gentler and more effective.

piercinghelp · 23/02/2023 06:16

I did use a whole can of the Neilmed stuff, I will have to get some more.
If I could go back I wouldn't have got them all done at once, the piercer thought it wouldn't matter due to it just being lobes but apparently it does !

Piercings take much longer to heal than most people expect. Even ear lobes. Changing after 6 weeks having used some rapid healing spray meant to half the recovery time is unrealistic and
asking fir trouble.

Ask the piercer to out the titanium earrings back in and follow their advice re after care. The neilmed spray is amazing. And ultimately beyond that leave them alone. Anything anti septic even just tea tree is not really advisable.

You do have to be careful how you sleep too. I always found any study that had the pointy back with the butterfly just stabbed into me and aggrevated the piercings. You cant go cheap even om an earring if you have sensitive skin/body.

Of course it is also possible to entirely reject a piercing altogether no matter what you do. I'm assuming the metal compounds have now changed slightly because all the piercings I had done 20 years ago I'm fine with. Anything new , well it can be hit and miss despite apparently being the same metal. It's most odd.

Thank you for all the advice. So, I brought some titanium hoops, bloody expensive but I'm hoping will finally help them heal. They do feel a little better since putting them in this morning. If this doesn't help then I will have to accept defeat and let them close over !! Gutted though as I absolutely love all the jewellery in my ears !

@piercinghelp I know this is an old thread but I was just wondering how your ears were now, did the titanium hoops help? Thanks
