Anyone successfully used hair growth products?

I'm only 36 and my hair is thinning on top. I see so many ads in Facebook for hair growth: shampoos and scalp serums. Obviously some of them are way too good to be true. Has anyone used anything that actually works?

I take daily vitamins for hair and nails so I'm sorted with that side of things. I also use a eyebrow powder to hide my scalp.

Thanks

I have had good results using Watermans to thicken my hair, not necessarily regrowth though

MavisMcMinty · 14/02/2023 13:31

I was using Philip Kingsley soya protein capsules for my nails for a couple of years, and when I couldn’t afford them any more, I noticed my hair was less thick a few months later. I hadn’t noticed its improvement while I was on the soya, but a year later starting to wonder if I shouldn’t try and find a cheaper replacement. The soya did nothing for my nails though!

Goldandpurplezebra · 14/02/2023 15:35

@husbandcallsmepickle did it just give volume then? Just trying to work out how it thickened it without regrowth.

@MavisMcMinty I'll give that a go. It's funny you say that as my nails have defo got stronger from the vitamins that I've been taking but not noticeable results with my hair. I've been using superdrugs own brand for hair and nails vitamins.

Following, OP, as I have the same problem (am 38 but for me it started after I had my eldest child 8 years ago). It really gets me down. I’m currently trying hairburst supplements and I also got some georgiemane serum but I don’t like putting stuff on my hair all the time so i can’t say I’ve used it much and it’s supposed to be massaged in daily.

Get to the GP!
Thyroid issues, low iron or low folate can all cause hair loss/poor growth.

Orangeradiorabbit · 14/02/2023 16:33

I was on the mini pill and it caused hair thinning. It took over a year to recover after I came off the pill. I've also had my hair ripped out a few times in the past when I was assalted leaving large bald patches.

When trying to grow back I always take a skin hair and nails tablet, put Jamaican Black Castor oil with some essential oils added in on my scalp (e.g. massage before shampoo) and use rice water. I think all that stuff helped, but I can't be sure. My hair is thick again now.

Like others have said, it might be worth checking hormonal levels, thyroid and vitamin levels. Some hair products can also cause hair loss, so it might be worth googling any products (shampoo, conditioner etc) that you're using to check if others are reporting hair loss. High levels of sugar/pre-diabetes is also associated with thinning hair. Treat the cause if possible.

I popped on to say "fixes" aren't always expensive brand names if cost is a concern, but it can be a slow journey. Hopefully this is encouraging :) good luck

Yes def get your iron levels and thyroid tested.

Read up on minoxidil. I saw a consultant hair specialist and he said the shampoos etc do very little if not nothing.

Hehx3 · 14/02/2023 16:56

I am using minoxidil as previous poster suggested and I can see it growing back.
My hair was getting thinner due to stress - a lot came out.
I have been using it for 3 mths now and see baby hair now.

Biotin supplement works.

The only thing that worked for my severe post partum hair loss was Biotin. Think they're Nuface from Amazon.

TheLastDreamOfTheOak · 15/02/2023 08:34

I've got some hair growth stuff from Amazon quite cheap and it actually does seem to work.

I was going to get that Champo serum which is being heavily advertised on insta but it's so spendy!

My friend who has had severely thinning hair since we were 13 reckons micro needling is helping her when nothing else has.

Hehx3 · 15/02/2023 09:08

@VanillaSox there is initial further shedding with it 😬 i was scared to be honest but decided to bare through and new one started to grow.

Goldandpurplezebra · 15/02/2023 12:30

So looks like i am going to try minoxidil.

So people who have used it and seen results was it just the serum you used?

I've got female pattern baldness and have seen some regrowth with the regain (minoxidil) spray. Make sure to get the mens version, as it's cheaper and a higher %.
