Floor length dress for Cruise

RicciardoPerez · 06/02/2023 18:56

Cruising this summer - looking for a floor length formal dress. Dark coloured. Black, navy, emerald green etc.

Size 12, hourglass figure - massive bust to no strapless or halter neck (paranoid about tops of arms so ideally some sleeves).

Just had a baby last year so still sporting some baby weight.

Looked at Goddiva, quiz and coast. Nothing taking my fancy. Budget around £100.

Look online and second hand, I've got them from ever pretty, not the best quality but fine and pretty for a few outings on a cruise, I had to shorten as very long.

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 06/02/2023 18:59

I saw some beautiful full length dresses by Ghost in the outlet store at about £1000.

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 06/02/2023 18:59

Er… that should be £100.

Ever pretty is nice, loads of colours and styles. We got our bridesmaids dresses from there. They also sell on Amazon.

Chewbecca · 06/02/2023 19:06

TK Maxx is really good for random dressy dresses - do you have one nearby?

2bazookas · 06/02/2023 19:33

Sure you want floor length? On cruise formal nights where men are required to wear a dinner jacket, smart cocktail length dresses are very common on ( and cooler in hot climates)

FlibbertyGibbitt · 06/02/2023 20:17

Look at Amazon Angel fashions, their dresses are lovely and not expensive . I got this, it’s lovely

Yeah I've worn floor length before on previous cruises and always feel good with one on :)

Phase 8?

PrincessofWellies · 06/02/2023 20:25

Vinted is your friend, I got an amazing Biba sequinned dress for £10.

Shunkleisshiny · 06/02/2023 20:26

I used to go to a lot of black tie 'dos' and bought quite a few from Ebay. Check out Phase Eight, Coast and Frank Usher.

coffeeneeded · 06/02/2023 20:27

Phase 8

or have a look at eshakti- you can get them custom made to your measurements and are stunning dresses. I've got quite a few. Last time I got one it arrived within a week.

RicciardoPerez · 06/02/2023 21:08

Thanks for al the suggestions :) I'll be having a look through them all :)

What @Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies said - Ghost have some beautiful floor length dresses in at the right price

NeedWineNow · 07/02/2023 11:22

I know it's a bit over your budget but I've just got this for our cruises this year. It is beautiful on and so comfortable. The inner lining holds you in and gives you a great shape. I'm a very curvy 14/16 with definite bum and belly and I feel great in it.

Watch out for EShakti - I ordered a dress from there on the advice of Mumsnet. It took a while to arrive which was fair enough but when it arrived it didn't fit. Even though I'd lost about 8lbs in the 6 weeks it took to arrive it barely did up. But I'd allowed plenty of time for remakes so I resent more detailed measurements (as they requested) and waited . I heard nothing. I messaged them a few times but 3 months later the event I had ordered it for came and went with no sign of a remade dress. . It took over 6 months and about 10 emails to get any response from them. In the end I had to pay to return the original dress to India and even then they only offered me a credit note. I politely said it would be a cold day in hell before I ever used them again and finally, nearly a year after placing the order I got my money back.

Pearfacebanana · 10/02/2023 22:31

Try Chi Chi.

coffeeneeded · 11/02/2023 19:43

@FeelingwearyFeeelingsmall this is sad to read. I have bought 10 dresses from them, knee length and ballgowns, and only one was wrong (and that was because it was the wrong style for me).

I don't blame you though. Sounds like a shite experience.

John Lewis evening dresses are always worth a browse

Would something like this work for you?

I’ve worn this one to two black tie events now and it’s got lots of compliments. Available in a few different colours and styles too (Just type Scarlett and Jo into the search)
