Eyelash serum again - sorry!

I'm currently using The Ordinary eyelash serum and am not seeing any results yet (7weeks in). I'm going to keep going as some have said it takes up to 3 months to have any effect.

My question is, if I decide to try a different serum when this runs out, which is best the one out of UKLash and Rapidlash.

Thank you 😊

I’m about 3 days into using rapidlash, a bit scared after reading about some of these side effects, only wanted to give my eyes a bit of a frame, already have dark circles ffs!

Does anyone know if UKLash has the bad ingredients mentioned upthread in it? Worried now.

I've bitten the bullet and bought some Revitalash. There'll be ructions if it doesn't work!

I saw a dermatologist saying that they could see the orbital fat loss in 100% of patients who'd used that ingredient (once they knew what to look for). Put me off completely!

Rapidlash worked for me to grow lovely lashes.

However…

It also caused hollowing of my eye sockets that made me look tired and old. I stopped nearly a year ago and only now am getting back to how it should be, but still not fully.

I loved the lashes, but they couldn’t make up for the awful look of my eyes.

Rapidlash doesn't contain prostaglandin any more so shouldn't cause that issue

It does, unfortunately/fortunately (depending on your viewpoint!)- it contains isopropyl cloprostenate, which is a synthetic prostaglandin analogue (chemical with similar shape and function but made in a lab).

Prostaglandins (including analogues) are the active ingredient that prevent eyelashes dropping out and instead continue their growth, so without them eyelash serums don’t actually have any effect- but all prostaglandin containing serums can cause skin darkening, peri orbital fat loss and iris colour changes.

Unfortunately it isn’t possible to have the beneficial effects of the drug without the possible side effects of that drug.

Sorry it’s a bit late now but if you’re happy to risk the side effects, rapid lash was equally as effective for eyelash growth for me (I actually started with revitalash then switched). Revitalash has less of a gluey residue though - but the price is much higher!

In terms of reddening of lids, both were similar for me. Difficult to say if one was worse for fat loss around the socket due to it being more of a long term effect but medically there’s no real reason for there to be any difference.

Rebel2023 · 06/02/2023 13:48

@DamnThatHitsHome I can't see it at all on the ingredients list weirdly, I think that's what they got rid of maybe?
Copied from rapidlash website

Thank you for your post - I'm a bit nervous about the side effects but I'll keep an eye (ho ho) out for them and stop using it if anything happens.

No7 lash serum from boots works. I saw results in as little as a week !

DamnThatHitsHome · 06/02/2023 14:06

Bizarre- it’s on the list on their page here: www.rapidlash.co.uk/products/rapid-lash/

Could be different in different countries?

Yeah that's what I'm wondering! I googled a bit more as I'm curious now and it says the ingredient you mentioned was removed Confused
Weirder and weirder

Yes it does. I was about to buy it until I saw that in the ingredients.

Darklane · 06/02/2023 17:42

I’ve had good results with UKLash. Took about a month but my sparse short lashes, thyroid problem, were longer than they’d ever been. Much more noticeable wearing mascara as they’re also pale. It does darken the skin a bit close to the lashes, no eye colour change in my turquoise eyes though. It’s also reduced the bags under my eyes! Probably the orbital fat loss spoken of.

Roxie99 · 06/02/2023 17:51

Wow you learn something new everyday the 2 drugs mentioned at the top o' thread are basic drugs for lowering eye pressure for glaucoma....never knew they were used for eyelash serums...

LuciferRising · 06/02/2023 20:50

Think I may stop using my UKLash serum after reading this. Are the eyebrow ones safe?
