Swimmers - which shampoo & conditioner & other beauty tips

I've decided to swim regularly again - hopefully 3/week when I get a bit fitter. My hair is already in fairly poor condition and my scalp is a bit flaky.
Which hair products do you rate? Do you have any other beauty hints? I'm wetting my hair thoroughly before I swim; is there anything else I should be doing?

I just use my regular shampoo, I used Philip Kingsley swim cap for a while but £££ and no difference.

I wear a silicone cap because otherwise I get hair in my eyes and breakage from goggles.

As swimming can dry hair out I’d definitely recommend a good hair mask to use a couple of times a week, like Philip Kingsley Elasticizer or Christophe Robin Prickly Pear Mask. (Use at home, not under your swim hat in the pool as the pollutes the water for everyone else).

I also use a richer moisturiser for face/body on the days I go swimming!

I wear a silicone hat, then rinse through with cold water and use any conditioner and sauna for 10 minutes before rinsing off. Then I use any body cream/oil on my arms and legs. My shower gel ran out weeks ago, keep forgetting to replace it, that was child’s farm, but will replace with Sanex. I wash my curly hair once or twice a week, at home. I do find my legs are looking scaly so following for tips.

I apply a leave in conditioner or hair mask to damp hair under a silicon swim cap. I shampoo / condition immediately post swim and usually apply a mask or hair oil to help replenish.

In terms of brands, nothing specific. Lately I’ve been using a motley mix of products from advent calendars.

Please don't put anything on your hair before swimming except water - the other day I was swimming behind a lady who left a distinctly floral-scented trail in the water which was most unpleasant! I don't shampoo often (curly girl) but definitely not after swimming as I feel it has been stripped enough. I do apply a mask for damaged hair (currently hair food papaya) and comb through before partially rinsing.

I've found a pool which doesn't chlorinate the water; they must use UV or similar - much nicer!
