Where are people buying prom dresses?

Surely not everyone is shelling out £500 or whatever the boutiques seem to be selling for?
I wore a mini dress from topshop to my leavers disco. A world away from these days and I'm a bit overwhelmed! I simply don't have that kind of cash to spend on a one off dress. Any advice appreciated!

Dd got one off Vinted which was £10 I think. But if a risk on the sizing but it was fine and I could have paid for alterations. Spending a fortune is ridiculous! She looked amazing and it was one of the longline satin styles with lace up back that are popular.

Asos or Next has nice ones!

Toddlingturtle · 01/02/2023 18:48

Asos £27

If you are in/around London lots of girls go to Fonthill Rd, Finsbury Park. A road of prom / bridesmaids dresses with mainly very reasonable prices .

Ebay

Not in London no. I mat check ebay or vinted. The only shops online seem to be shipping from the other side of the world so I just have concerns if there is problems or whatever. Has anyone used Stacees? Very mixed reviews online. But does sell the right dress in the right colour (we think).

DD bought her 'prom' dress from h&m. Black bodycon, fitted bust. She wanted black platform mary janes to go with and has been practicing walking in them. With the addition of a thick red belt it looks suitably dressy and is actually something she'll wear again.

We looked at many a shiny, wafty, flimsy dress. In the end she made the decision and I'm so pleased she is dressing true to herself.

See if there is an Oxfam Bridal shop near you as they normally have a prom section too.
