I’m 45 and suddenly dislike jeans. What’s the alternative?

I used to live in my skinnies. But at 45 and perimenopausal, I now find them restrictive and unflattering. I have a nice pair of wide leg jeans and they work a bit better. I love dresses, but there are months when it’s too cold for bare legs and too warm for tights. I’d love to find an alternative to jeans that’s still flattering, looks current and feels comfy. What do other jean-sceptics do? I’m 5’4’’, size 12, 62kg with a generous tum but good legs.

Don't be put off by the over the top pics! I ordered a size bigger than I normally take.

Why is her ass so big??? 😂😂

I live in jeans until the weather warms up. But I don't like skinnies and also find them quite restrictive. I only use them for cold, wet walks where I need to wear long boots over the top of them.

I like straight leg and bootcut or flared jeans.

Other than that, I also like leggings and feel no shame 😄. Leggings and a jumper dress {chef's kiss}

TheMildManneredMilitant · 28/01/2023 08:31

Apparently those leggings will also make my bum look like a 'sexy juicy peach'. I'm totally sold 😂

RaininSummer · 28/01/2023 08:32

Mint velvet black leggings with tunic dresses seem to be my go to.

Benjispruce4 · 28/01/2023 08:33

For work I wear wide leg trousers with opaque pop socks( hideous thought but they work so well) or midi dresses with tights and boots. At home I wear smart joggers with trainers sometimes with a blazer to smarten. Otherwise I’ll wear wide leg leans with trainers or boot leg that I recently bought and took me back to the 90s. I’m 51 and 5ft 5 size 10/12.

High waisted leather look leggings

Honestly, I can hardly believe it myself.

With trainers for every day and high heeled boots for going out out.

And yes, re the peachy-ness of the rear end. Gleeeful.

Benjispruce4 · 28/01/2023 08:34

I do wear skinnies when dog walking as they tuck into my walking boots better.

Janieread · 28/01/2023 08:34

I went off jeans for a bit but then discovered the M and S Mom jeans. They are so,so comfortable. I wear them with a sweatshirt/jumper and high top converse.

grayhairdontcare · 28/01/2023 08:38

I honestly just wear dresses every day.
I wear base layers of a jumper if cold.
Boots in winter and trainers or sandals when weather allows

lifeinthehills · 28/01/2023 08:39

What do you wear with long dresses on your feet during colder months? When you really need covered shoes?

CrystalMaisie · 28/01/2023 08:39

Are you on Instagram? Erica Davies did a story last weekend, on alternative trousers to jeans, it’s saved at the top of her page.

redspottedmug · 28/01/2023 08:40

The thick Uniqlo jeggings are a decent alternative to skinny jeans. Very comfy, not too tight and definitely not see through.

validnumber · 28/01/2023 08:42

Marks and Spencer do leggings that look like skinny jeans. So comfy.

Benjispruce4 · 28/01/2023 08:43

@lifeinthehills I wear suede look chunky Chelsea boots with opaque tights and midi dresses .

Benjispruce4 · 28/01/2023 08:45

I wear thermal base layer bodies under the dress . Some are polo necked. M&S ones are very thin but sooo warm.

Thanks. Looked them up. They could work.

Quitelikeacatslife · 28/01/2023 08:47

borntobequiet · 28/01/2023 08:49

Jeans are pretty much the most uncomfortable type of garment IMO, thick, heavy and either cut too high/too low, too loose or too tight.
For over 40 years now I’ve consistently worn some sort of legging/jegging in colder weather, mostly with a longish top or coat but without if thick enough, and wide legged cotton or linen trousers or shorts in the summer.

karmalama · 28/01/2023 08:52

I e gone off jeans too
At home I live in these, don't go out in them but they are so warm and comfortable

friskybivalves · 28/01/2023 08:53

Oooooh. Would you say they come up big or small? Am sorely tempted by some of these.

EyesOnThePies · 28/01/2023 08:53

Corduroy is having a moment.
M&S have nice straight leg needle cords.

Mom or Boyfriend jeans?

MissMarpleRocks · 28/01/2023 08:53

I live in these now

Jeggings with elasticated waist have been the answer for me! Still get the jeans look. To be honest I've never liked the button and zips proper jeans
