I haven't worn make up since before the pandemic

And all my make up was old then. I have an evening event to go to in a couple of weeks and really need to buy new stuff. I have no idea what is good (I used to range from whatever was cheap to Clinique to Boots to whatever), what is reasonably fashionable, what is necessary.

I don't mind spending some money on good stuff, but realistically I don't wear make up so I don't want to spend a lot. I've probably got lipstick and eyeshadows that are still usable (although maybe not the right colours), but the foundations, mascaras, eyeliners, whatevers, probably all need to be binned and replaced.

Any recommendations on what I need? Or don't need?

I used up a surprising amount of make up on newly established zoom meetings during lockdowns! Now they’ve stopped I’m losing touch with my face …

You need to spend a few hours on the Cult Beauty website. It will give you an excellent oversight of what’s current - and between extensive photos, videos, and customer reviews it’s quite hard to go seriously wrong. (I’ve found their free gifts sometimes throw up unexpectedly brilliant things that become part of my grooming routine.)

I have no connection to them, and other retailers are available!

If you haven't worn makeup since before the pandemic, it may be a good idea to update your makeup routine to ensure that the products you are using are still fresh and safe to use. It is also a good idea to clean your makeup brushes and tools before using them again. Additionally, it may be a good idea to consult with a makeup professional to get tips on how to update your look and choose products that are best suited for your skin type.
