How to gently lighten hair?

Hey,

I have dark brown hair (I do add dye every now and then even though it's my natural hair colour)

I wanted to go a subtle copper brown colour, but I doubt it will show over my current hair colour.

Is there a way to gently lighten my hair without damage? I don't need to be completely bleached right?

It will need to be bleached to remove the dark pigment, then have colour put back in

Don't attempt it yourself, go to the hairdresser for highlights/balayage

Hairdresser only! My hairdressers does star lights which is 3 different colours which helps mix in lighter shades
