Night out - pub - what do you wear?!

Seriously. I’m 41 and for over the past decade a night out has been family dos - think restaurant meals, weddings etc. But I’ve found myself invited to the pub. I tried looking online and it reminds me of the 90s. Plus jeans to me equals the school run. So what do I wear. We are talking the London suburbs. I’m around a 10 pear shaped. Suggestions welcome.

I live rurally so not going to be much help. Jeans, jumper and wellies!

Everyone wears jeans here especially in winter and fairly casual tops, shoes etc.

I was going to say wear anything. I go to the pub maybe once/twice a week and have always just worn what I was wearing anyway.

But then I thought it does depend on the pub/what time of day - I might dress up a bit more to go to a city centre pub on a Friday evening with friends for an evening out, compared to dropping into the pub near the local park after walking the dog on a Sunday.

So depending on the above, my default if I wanted to make a bit of an effort might be wide leg jeans/trousers, ‘nice’ jumper (like a fine knit cashmere jumper) tucked in, wool coat, trainers. Or chunky boots, slim trousers/jeans, chunky oversized jumper. I don’t really wear dresses but in winter chunky boots, skirt and jumper/dress can be a nice smart-casual look.

Normal daytime clothes with a bit more make up / hair effort (but not full face/bouffant).

I nearly always wear a dress, chunky boots and nice coat. Usually a plain black wool scarf. Quite often a chunky cardigan over the dress if it’s cold. Or a leather skirt and jumper. I tend to over dress though, just so I get to wear nice things. I would find it a bit depressing to always wear jeans. However, I can totally see why people favour comfort and warmth! 😊

A lot of my friends go for jeans or leggings, but l love my dresses and rarely wear trousers of any type. I’m possibly unusual though, there is even a picture of me on a noticeboard at work with a post it note under it where someone has written “[my name] wearing trousers”.

Wear whatever you feel most comfortable in. If you want to wear jeans just choose items that dress them up a bit more.

@StarlightLady 🤣

I refused to wear trousers as a child!

I’m just thinking that if I do wear jeans I tend do red lips, I’ve never really thought about that.

Is it just going to the one pub for some drinks? I think people wear whatever they usually wear now. If your personal style is dresses and boots, then that. If it’s hoody and leggings, that. If it’s jeans and a jumper, wear that. Basically, whatever your standard style is. Some people like to make an effort with their general appearance, so wearing a silk blouse and wool coat is their everyday style.

I’ve gone to the same pub in mucky dog walking clothes and no make up, as well as dress and heels. I dress more for myself though and what kind of mood I’m in, rather than for an event/venue.
