Money is no object- What primer do you buy?

I've had it with crappy primers and ready to invest in a good one.

Any recommendations?

If its relevant- I'm mid 30s, my skin is very fair and without make up I look tired. I like illuminating products for this reason but also I want my make up to last all day. I feel like I top up my concealer at least three times a day because every time I go to the ladies I see the girl from the ring in the mirror.

Tinted or non tinted?

Tinted, can recommend charlotte tilbury wonderglow

Non tinted, I rate the by terry Hyaluronic one, especially in summer as its quite mattifying.

Alternatively the Laura mercier canvas one is good

TheFoz · 21/01/2023 13:55

I haven’t tried it myself but apparently the Note cosmetics primer is a good one.

Benefit imo do the best primers, however, they are pricy. I use a Wilko one that's around £4. I couldn't justify the price of Benefit. I spend more on other stuff.

TheNeverEndingOver · 21/01/2023 15:07

I love pat McGrath primer. Also smells amazing

Christmascracker0 · 21/01/2023 15:11

I personally don’t find primer makes a difference to make up longevity, I think a good powder and setting spray work much better.

EastLifer · 21/01/2023 15:15

Think with primers it's about matching the primer to the makeup. Water based make up needs a water based primer. Oli based makeup needs and oil based primer. Don't ask me how you know which is which though!

primeoflife · 21/01/2023 15:26

I was given a clarins one for Christmas and my skin feels so smooth when I put it on!

BlackSwan · 21/01/2023 15:31

Agree with Pat McGrath being excellent. Though I don't notice the fragrance, so it must be subtle.

SenecaFallsRedux · 21/01/2023 15:34

I really like Estee Lauder The Smoother Universal Perfecting Primer.

extrasushiplease · 21/01/2023 15:35

I love the Tatcha one (and a tiny bit goes a long way) and the Hourglass Veil Mineral primer.

Metabigot · 21/01/2023 15:35

I'm not a massive fan of clinique but do rate their superprimer. It's un tinted. Personally I prefer tinted tho as I don't wear foundation and just add a bit of powder.

Bobbi brown vitamin base, expensive but amazing.

Talisin · 21/01/2023 16:07

Also very pale and have combination skin. I got a sample size of Benefit Porefessional Lite on Monday. By Tuesday I had bought a full size one, it’s that good. My foundation stays on until the end of the day, I’m not having to blot every few hours, my skin doesn’t feel tight and uncomfortable.

Thefailinghousewife · 21/01/2023 16:10

I like the laura mercier illuminating cream, or Elemis flash balm. I use it under double wear though so nothing shifts it and you need something hefty to give you a glow!

DaVariance · 21/01/2023 16:43

I like the Laura Mercier one

I don't really need one

I just use Hada Labo HA followed by Superdrug Simply Pure Hydrating Serum.

Then I apply Boots No 7 Hydraluminous foundation followed by a pressed powder I just use a Max Factor one ( I don't find much if a difference between them but without powder my makeup will slide.

Polarbearyfairy · 21/01/2023 16:46

I am currently using the Bobbi Brown one with spf 50 (prime and protect I think) and it is a-mazing. Makeup looks so good on top of it.

I used the Bobbi Brown vitamin face base for ages so would recommend that too.

Also love the too face hangover primer, I rebought that a few times.

I also use Bobbi brown eye cream as an under eye primer - not the vitamin one the hydrating one.

If your makeup is sliding off, do you use a setting powder and setting spray? You might want to switch concealer too if it disappears.

mrsmarmalade12 · 21/01/2023 16:49

Dermalogica is the best I've used but it's very ££

whateveryousay · 21/01/2023 16:51

Dermalogica is fab.

minidancer · 21/01/2023 16:53

Mac

I do use a setting spray but I stay away from powers generally because I have dry skin and they tend to look caked and aging on me.

I do have the hourglass illumination palate though which I love- but I don't think it works as a setting powder.

Smashbox is my go to, have tried others but nothing compares.

miraveille · 22/01/2023 03:35

I think a lot depends on what you're putting on top of it as some go together and some don't

I use Georgio Armani luminous silk foundation and Tarte concealer on top.

The YSL one with bits in glitter in it. I ❤️ it so much.
