How do I dye my hair auburn?

I had my medium brown hair highlighted just over a year ago so it's well and truly grown out. Hair is down to about my elbows.

I'd really like to go auburn but would prefer not to damage my hair any further. I don't mind a bit of maintaining. What kind of dye do I need to cover both my natural hair and highlighted bit? Don't mind if it's not all the same tone.

I know I sound a bit dense but I've never dyed my hair myself before! And finding scrolling through boots website a bit confusing, what do I need? :/

I'd buy the dye you want. It'll look different on the blond and brown bits because it's lighter than the brown I expect. Don't go more than a shade or two lighter than your natural colour or you'll find it has little effect on that part of your hair. The box will give an indication of what it'll look like on both colours. If you want your hair all the same you'll have to pick something the same darkness as your natural colour or darker, which might rule out auburn depending on how dark your natural hair is. I wouldn't over think it it's really not that complicated.
