Can brown people wear brown next to the face?

Just that really:) I have a brown jumper ( mole colour) which I meant to return for a brighter colour, but forgot about and now it's too late. It does make me look brown all over. I do love Sienna Miller's caramel-beige- brown wardrobe in Anatomy of An Affair, but can it work for brown people? I was thinking maybe a bright scarf ( though I am not much of a scarf person). Or bright lipstick.

If you aren't a scarf person how about a contrasting necklace? Or a shirt underneath with a collar poking out? Or a polo neck?

It may not even be needed depending upon the shades. I don't think there is any reason why you can't wear brown.

Can you post the jumper so we can make suggestions?

Brown people are generally cool toned I thought, so brown not a great colour unless a dark cool brown. This is regardless of being 'brown in brown'.

I'm white but would say same colouring as light Asian (people often ask if I'm from India) and I look ok in brown only if there are no yellow tones in it

You definitely can. I'd try and go for a "shades of brown" outfit if poss.

I think Meghan wears quite a bit of brown and looks great, there is a contrast with her skin tone though. I love this look.

Why can’t you wear it? Brown has been a trendy colour since 2020, no one will bat an eyelid. As long as it’s not close enough to your skin tone to make you look nude, it will be fine. It’s just a neutral shade at this point,

Racist !

I would generally try to avoid clothes that are the same colour as your skin and very fitted so you don't look naked from a distance. But I think brown can look great on brown people. My (light brown) husband just bought a brown suit recently and it looks so good. But 70s, but great! He's got a black beard though so that helps add a bit of contrast. And one of the school dads is Jamaican and he often wears all shades of brown and looks fantastic.

Also I don't think it's true that brown people are usually cool toned, my DH definitely is not and I can think of a few people I know who are both dark skinned and warm toned.

Eh?

The key from the above photos seems to be shades of brown!

Testino · 17/01/2023 17:40

Depends on the literal shade of brown then as from the photos, I can generally see one literal brown person. Others, I guess are "brown" in terms of racial classification, as in "not white".

But yes, brown goes well with brown skin but you need to find the shade that fits with your actual tone.

Rochelle humes wears all sorts of brown and neutral tones a lot and I think it works for her
