DD 'prom' dress - where can I buy one?

DD (10) has a 'prom' at school. It's basically a party where they get to wear long dresses.
Last year it was like the Monsoon catalogue had vomited in the school hall.

Everyone looked lovely but I'm looking for ideas as to where I can look for a prom dress, other than Monsoon this year.

Pls no comments on concept of prom at age 10. It's what the school have always done.

Can she wear last year’s dress or does it no longer fit? Quiz might be good depending on sizing, they start at a size 4

cowsaysmoo · 14/01/2023 10:31

Coast has some nice dresses and they still have sales.

'What the school has always done' does not make it right.

Looking at sales this time of year may help OP.

I'll have a quick look at Quiz and Coast to see if they have anything more conservative. Thanks.

She is very slim so not sure if they are small enough in a size four but will give them a try!

Ebay I wouldn’t buy new for one occasion, and you’ll get a much wider choice.

If you go the EBay route Woden your search to bridesmaid dresses and see if there is anything appropriate.

Vinted!

Break the mould- a jump suit?

Mammyofonlyone · 14/01/2023 17:12

Thanks all. Will look at eBay etc.

She actually normally chooses a jump suit but this year she wants a dress. I didn't find somewhere just now but they take a month to ship so will just miss the prom!! Back to the drawing board...

Second hand! People sell on bridesmaid's dresses

Have you considered Shein ?

I got my daughter a dress from 'everything5pounds.com' for her prom. They have some ladies size 4 or size 6 which were a perfect side for my daughter. Hers was a bit like this one www.everything5pounds.com/en/Womens/Dresses/Skater-Dresses/Mini-Lace-Skater-Dress/p/703148

Personally I’d look at Vinted, you could always then take it for alterations to change the style slightly, add embellishments etc.

These ones are all on vinted at the moment…
