Joules Dudley Bag … yay nor nay?

My poor tan Fossil Rachel satchel really needs replacing and I have been eying up the Joules Dudley which is on sale atm. The navy one and tan look appealing to me. Would Joules be comparable in quality to Fossil? I like my bags crossbody style, minimal branding, slightly structured with an external pocket I could retrieve my iPhone easily.

yay from me.

It’s a nice bag. I’m not keen on the handle though. I like the tan color in particular.

Niftythrifter · 14/01/2023 07:52

No. The two tone leather handle just looks wrong in both colour ways and the shape of the bag just looks wrong.

Treeeeeeee · 14/01/2023 07:54

I like the blue, not the brown

Niftythrifter · 14/01/2023 08:04

How about this as an alternative www.radley.co.uk/sale/london-pockets-faux-croc-medium-zip-top-cross-body-bag-h2808206-ic-aw20#H2808206

@Niftythrifter I like the style but it really needs to be tan. Reason being I live in subtropical Australia and with it being hot and sunny almost year round the lighter brown matches my footwear and clothing much better. If I bought navy it would be a winter bag (June-Aug)

The Joules one looks like it’s trying to be River Island.

1Step2Step · 14/01/2023 11:24

@Niftythrifter I think I have to imagine that with all my summery outfits. Over here that would be more a colder-month style bag. The textured leather looks like it would be very durable though.

The strap is really thin and looks uncomfortable.

1Step2Step · 14/01/2023 11:31

It looks like it’s a possible nay then. Here was my Fossil bag that I loved. it was simple, perfect size, weight and colour. Leather was supple but the bag had structure. It had enough pockets etc to keep me organised without being overwhelming. Unfortunately fossil discontinued this bag (and the other popular satchel like Sydney) but I might see if I can get it on eBay

OP I've just found the rachel bag on Amazon if that helps for £107

PlodandPod · 14/01/2023 11:36

Apologies, just seen you are in Australia so that may not be of help!

CharlotteStreetW1 · 14/01/2023 11:41

I am also looking for a replacement for my Rachel bag which I adored. You can still find them, as you've seen, but mine was a rigid leather and I haven't seen one like that. It really was the best bag ever.

Can you not buy another one as per your link?

1Step2Step · 14/01/2023 11:58

@CharlotteStreetW1 I can find a Sydney satchel in medium brown which is close enough. So annoyed they got rid of them. I think they’re a very classic shape.

I love your username btw. I used to work right by Charlotte St (Whitfield St). Small world….

Hi OP, I also have a Rachel and it’s been great.
I used to have a tan crossbody from Kate spade that was an almost identical shape and size in lovely leather, so might be worth a look there.
im considering this lulu Guinness one with two compartments
www.luluguinness.com/products/blush-leather-cole-crossbody-bag
it does look a bit smaller though, no room for my book!
