Find me a wedding dress (bride!) - registry office

Does anyone fancy a challenge?! šŸ™ˆ I’m at a complete loss as to what I want to wear.
Getting married and having a very small registry office wedding.

Im a size 20/22. Don’t particularly like my tummy or arms. Mid-brown hair and pale skin. Not at all fussy about a wedding, just want to be married šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļøšŸ¤£ but if we’re doing a little ceremony then I’d like to feel a little bit bridal 😊
I have no idea where to even begin!! What would you wear if you were me? Give me some inspiration please Mumsnet šŸ˜³šŸ¤žšŸ¼

What colour? Length? Assuming you'd like sleeves? I don't like my arms above the elbows so I'd go full length or 3/4!

Guavafish1 · 14/01/2023 06:28

What is your budget?

I think that’s my problem @MichelleScarn - I have no idea šŸ™ˆšŸ™ˆ Happy to be quite ā€œtraditionalā€ or equally not at all traditional šŸ™ˆ
Im 5’ 6ā€ and don’t particularly like midi length so ideally longer or shorter than midi šŸ˜‚ and I feel the same about my arms as you!

Oh so not these lengths! šŸ˜†

Gosh, I really didn’t give any info, did I?! 🤣 I did mean too, sorry!!
Happy to spend for the right dress tbh šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø Maybe up to Ā£400/500 absolute maximum. Obviously the cheaper the better though šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļøšŸ˜Š

Now I've never ordered from them, but a colleague ordered from everpretty, and she said it all went really well and she was happy with her dresses! It was a lockdown wedding though! www.ever-pretty.co.uk/products/romantic-stunning-v-neck-long-wedding-guest-dress-with-ruffle-sleeves-ep00734?_pos=19&_fid=5a1b72cea&_ss=c&variant=43024512057531

ScottishMum03 · 14/01/2023 06:43

@MichelleScarn Definitely not those lengths 😊🤣 but thank you for looking 😊 I’ll have a look at both sites you’ve suggested!

If you want something simple and unfussy how about this Reformation dress? 3X is a size 20.

MetaDaughter · 14/01/2023 06:59

This one is more tailored and comes in larger sizes. A little above your budget but not much. It’s rather nice, I think.

cathyandclare · 14/01/2023 07:03

Love that reformation dress

ScottishMum03 · 14/01/2023 07:07

@MetaDaughter I really like the first one 😊 thank you! I think the second one looks like it would cling to me in all the wrong places šŸ™ˆ

I had a similar wedding and found my dress through booking a personal shopper appointment at John Lewis. I tried a huge range of things I'd never have considered and was very happy with the result.

Railwayroad · 14/01/2023 07:09

I think a very full on bridal dress in a registry office can be too much so I’d keep it simple. You don’t need a big meringue.!

what do you usually wear? What shape of dress suits you? Waisted? Empire line?

ToDoListAddict · 14/01/2023 07:09

My friend got a gorgeous wedding dress from Shein - might be worth having a look on there?

Railwayroad · 14/01/2023 07:16

I love a wedding dress thread. A personal shopper is a great idea. My friend had one for her wedding and ended up wearing a lovely pale pink trouser suit.

MetaDaughter · 14/01/2023 07:36

Ok, so this Marina Rinaldi dress is absolutely not what you asked for, but it might make a splendid registry office dress for someone wanting a more stately, not white, outfit.

ScottishMum03 · 14/01/2023 07:42

@MontyDonsBlueScarf Thats a great idea 😊 a personal shopper would usually be a bit out of my comfort zone but I think it might help me since I have no idea what I want šŸ™ˆ

@Railwayroad Oh, I agree 😊 happy to keep it traditional (or not!) in terms of colour but I definitely don’t want a full on wedding dress 😊 I just want to feel nice.
I tend to wear styles a bit more fitted at the bust then flowing over my tummy as I’m quite self conscious of that area. As a wedding guest I’ve worn styles like the Scarlett & Jo Victoria or this one.

@ToDoListAddict Its not somewhere I’ve ever shopped! I always heard the quality wasn’t great. Maybe worth a wee look though.

@Railwayroad That sounds amazing! I wish I was brave enough to pull off a trouser suit but I always feel like a kid playing dress up 🤣🤣 I’m 32 but don’t have to dress particularly smarty for work so I feel like anything too tailored just feels weird!

That dress above is lovely.

@MetaDaughter This would definitely be fabulous on somebody wouldn’t it? 😊 or for a really special party!

@Railwayroad I love that embellished one! Is it too much for a registry office though? šŸ¤” definitely off to have a look at the site and see what else they do!

yes the shape is lovely.

Rixo have a section for registry weddings too.

good luck!

TheMagicSword · 14/01/2023 08:02

Monsoon have lots of options which are fitted over the bust then flowy. I rather like this one www.monsoon.co.uk/liz-embroidered-bridal-dress--ivory-54075646.html

Don’t restrict yourself by worrying what is ā€œtoo muchā€ for a registry office. If you fall in love with sparkles or embroidery or a meringue then go for it! This is the one time that you can wear exactly what you want to.

BlueSuffragette · 14/01/2023 08:09

What about this one? It's only £50. It is fit and flare and has pretty sleeves.
